Position Summary: The Bus Driver provides safe and reliable transportation for adult individuals with disabilities served by UCP Central California to and from their residences. This position ensures the safety, comfort, and well-being of individuals during transit and supports a respectful and inclusive transportation environment.
Essential Functions:
- Safely operate the bus while adhering to all traffic laws and regulations.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure the bus is in safe operating condition.
- Operate wheelchair lifts to assist program participants with boarding and exiting the bus.
- Properly tie down and secure wheelchairs and other mobility devices to ensure they are safely restrained during transit.
- Assist program participants with mobility impairments in boarding and exiting the bus safely.
- Fasten and adjust seat belts or safety harnesses as needed.
- Ensure the safety, comfort, and appropriate supervision of program participants during transit and maintain safe behavior during transportation.
- Accompany program participants to their residence door at drop-off times, ensuring they are safely met by a parent, guardian, or care provider, or have safely entered their residence.
- Communicate effectively with program participants, families, and staff.
- Immediately report accidents, injuries, vehicle damage, unsafe conditions, or other incidents to the Transportation Manager in accordance with organizational procedures.
- Relay any communication from parents, guardians, or care providers to the Transportation Manager.
- Keep accurate records of routes, schedules, and incidents.
- Create a welcoming and respectful atmosphere for all program participants.
- Follow all organizational safety procedures and transportation protocols while operating agency vehicles and transporting program participants.
- Maintain reliable attendance and adhere to assigned transportation schedules.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Valid California driver’s license required.
- Current DMV driving record demonstrating no more than two points.
- Previous experience driving a bus or other large vehicle preferred.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively with program participants, families, and staff.

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to remain seated for extended periods while driving.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds as necessary.
- Ability to maneuver wheelchairs and assist with mobility devices, which may involve pushing or pulling heavy equipment.
- Ability to bend, reach, kneel, and perform other physical movements to assist individuals with boarding and exiting the vehicle.
Schedule: Part-time, Monday through Friday. This position follows a split-shift schedule, typically working morning and afternoon transportation routes with a break between shifts. Total scheduled hours are generally 4–6 hours per day.
