The Instructor supports adults with disabilities by providing educational and recreational instruction, promoting skill development, and fostering independence. This role involves teaching life skills, arts, or technology, advocating for students’ rights, and collaborating with care staff to implement individualized service plans. Instructors play a vital role in creating a respectful, supportive, and inclusive environment while maintaining clear communication and professional relationships. This position requires patience, creativity, professionalism, and a strong commitment to enhancing the dignity, growth, and well-being of those served.

Job Duties:

  • Assist adults with disabilities in their daily activities and provide necessary physical support, such as mobility assistance or using equipment.
  • Offer instruction in various areas such as life skills, arts, or technology to help individuals develop new skills and grow.
  • Monitor and safeguard the rights, health, and safety of students, ensuring they receive appropriate care and support.
  • Advocate for the rights of individuals with disabilities and help students develop self-advocacy skills.
  • Provide support with personal care when necessary, ensuring students' needs are met.
  • Create schedules, design educational or recreational activities, and conduct workshops or classroom instruction.
  • Provide input in the development of individual service plans to meet each student's unique needs.
  • Keep open and professional communication with supervisors, students, care providers, and other stakeholders.
  • Attend relevant training, workshops, and meetings to continually improve job performance and stay updated on best practices.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with students, providing emotional support and guidance.
  • Other duties as requested.

Physical Requirements: 

  • Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. for short distances.
  • Must bend, sit, and stand for extended periods.
  • Able to view a computer screen for prolonged periods.
  • Capable of working in varying climates, both hot and cold.
  • Fine and gross motor skills are required for equipment and technology use and maintenance.
  • Able to push and move individuals in wheelchairs.
Qualifications:

Job Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma.
  • Background in visual arts, performing arts, and/or technology, along with a willingness to learn.
  • Reliable transportation
