JOB DESCRIPTION:
Claims Specialist

Reporting to the Director of Claims at UCS, you will have day to day responsibility for providing exceptional customer experiences drawing from prior career success and your resourcefulness. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned claims specialist that is ready to take on more responsibility with an agile surety company that is focused on responsible expansion and growth through autonomy.
What you’ll do:
- Manage the overall operational and customer service performance of all small claims activity from our bond portal.
- Maintain and refine best practices for claims handling and communicate claim trends to Underwriting and Finance leadership.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
- Guide the development of business cases for go/no-go decisions and establish measures of success for initiatives that move forward. Establish regular reporting and control processes and identify issues arising, with remediation plans. Identify and monitor risks.
- Provide clear, professional, and effective communication in both written and verbal formats.
- Build collaborative and contractual relationships with external partners to source and co-develop new capabilities.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in finance, construction management or related field
- 3-5 years of experience as a insurance claims or surety claims specialist
- Proven analytical ability to evaluate and judge underwriting risks within scope of responsibility
- Demonstrates strong ability to communicate complex analyses and information in understandable written and/or oral directives for underwriting or training purposes.
- Some overnight travel may be required and the ability to attend agent meetings and social or industry events
- Knowledgeable of industry changes, legal updates and technical developments related to applicable area of the Company’s business to proactively respond to changing business environment
Preferred:
- AFSB certification preferred
- A law degree (JD) or equivalent experience in legal aspects of claims handling.
- Proven experience negotiating and resolving claims directly with principals and obligees.
