JOB SUMMARY
As a Senior Automation Solutions Engineer, you will lead the installation, integration, and support of advanced industrial systems, and emerging automation technologies. This role requires a highly skilled, customer-facing professional with strong technical expertise in electrical, mechanical, and networking systems. For most assigned projects you will serve as either a project lead, a collaborative team member, or sometimes both, working with engineers, project managers, vendors, and customers in a team-oriented environment to deliver effective, reliable automation solutions. Most projects are in the Boston/New England area, but we have clients and installation locations throughout the US and internationally.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
System Development, Installation & Integration:
- Design, program, and support automation and control systems, including PLCs, HMIs, robotics, motion control, and SCADA systems.
- Develop and review electrical control schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and Bills of Material that meet customer and project requirements.
Technical Leadership:
- Lead or support automation projects from concept through installation, commissioning, and validation.
- Collaborate cross-functionally (production, maintenance, quality, IT, and customer teams) to ensure seamless system integration and high levels of collaboration.
Customer Engagement:
- Act as the primary technical contact, both onsite and remotely, ensuring clear communication and exceptional customer service.
- Conduct site assessments to verify infrastructure readiness (power, networking, environmental conditions).
- Travel to customer sites to implement, commission, and test automation projects
Troubleshooting & Support:
- Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues during and after installation.
- Perform preventive maintenance and create detailed service reports.
Documentation & Compliance:
- Develop and maintain installation guides, wiring diagrams, and calibration reports.
- Develop test procedures for existing and future projects.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards (Lockout-Tagout, Hazmat, Industrial Safety).
Travel:
- Travel (25–50%) to customer sites across the U.S. and possibly internationally, including overnight stays.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Associate degree in Engineering, Electronics, or related field (bachelor’s preferred) OR 5 years of equivalent experience.
Experience:
- 5 years in field service or installation roles, with advanced experience in:
- PLC integration (Emerson, Allen Bradley, Siemens, Modicon).
- Electrical and mechanical system installation and troubleshooting.
Skills:
- Knowledge of IP networking and industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Profibus, Modbus, IO-Link, etc.).
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and create technical documentation.
- Proficiency in electrical design software
- Ability to utilize PLC program editors to develop, implement and test logic-based software for current projects
- Experience with Microsoft Windows-based SCADA applications (Proficy Cimplicity/iFix, Rockwell FactoryTalk, AVEVA Wonderware).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Proficiency with standard business software tools, including the Microsoft Office suite.

- Valid driver’s license and ability to qualify for company credit card.
- Flexible and cooperative working style, with a willingness to support project needs outside normal working hours when required.
- Ability to comply with employment‑ and customer‑mandated drug testing and background checks.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. and work in physically demanding environments.
