Weld Scholarship – Class of 2027 High School Seniors

Turn your interest in welding into a career with United Alloy!

The 2027 United Alloy Weld Scholarship is an exciting opportunity for high school seniors graduating in 2027 in Janesville, WI, and surrounding communities who are interested in pursuing a career in welding.

Selected students will receive a $10,000 scholarship to attend a six-week welding program at Advanced Weld Institute (AWI) during the summer of 2027. United Alloy and AWI will cover tuition, tools, books, and housing for the duration of the program.

And it doesn’t stop there! Students will also:

• Earn $18.00/hour during the six-week training program
• Receive hands-on welding education and training
• Receive the tools and resources needed to complete the program
• Be offered a full-time welding position with United Alloy upon successful completion of the program, starting at $25.00/hour plus full benefits
• Be assigned to one of United Alloy’s two shifts based on current business needs

Scholarship Overview

Each selected recipient will receive a $10,000 scholarship covering:

• Tuition for the six-week AWI welding program
• Room and board
• Books
• Welding tools
• Additional program expenses covered by United Alloy/AWI

Students will earn $18.00/hour while attending the six-week program.

AWI Program Curriculum

Students will receive training in:

• Blueprint Reading & Welding Symbols: 40 hours
• GMAW-S – Short Circuit: 6 hours of classroom instruction and 30–40 hours of shop training
• GMAW-P – Pulse Spray: 6 hours of classroom instruction and 120 hours of shop training
• Fabrication: 24 hours of classroom instruction and 50 hours of shop training
• Skills testing throughout the program

Students will be expected to follow all Advanced Weld Institute rules and program requirements.

Who Should Apply?

Applicants must:

• Be a high school senior graduating in 2027
• Be in good academic standing and on track to graduate
• Have completed or currently be enrolled in technical education coursework, with welding courses preferred
• Have a strong interest in pursuing a career in welding
• Live in Janesville, WI, or a surrounding community

Application Requirements

To be considered for the 2027 UA Weld Scholarship, students must complete the online application and upload:

1. An essay explaining:

   • Your interest and passion for pursuing a welding career
   • Why you would be a great recipient of the United Alloy Weld Scholarship

2. One letter of recommendation from an educator or coach who is not a relative.

Recipient Selection

The United Alloy executive team will review completed applications and make the final scholarship selections. If additional input is needed, United Alloy may partner with local Technical Education instructors during the selection process.

Scholarship recipients will be announced in May 2027.
