Job Description
Job Summary: The Bookkeeper ensures that daily accounting functions (revenue and expenses) are processed accurately and in a timely manner. The position requires working with other church staff, members, vendors, and the Board.
Essential Functions:
- Process contributions and all other cash receipts weekly, including recording Contribution records in Shelby software, posting journal entries, preparing and making back deposits. Process online donations through Shelby Giving, PayPal, Venmo, Square, and Benevity.
- Interface with members regarding pledge balances, contributions, tax statements, online giving, and stock gifts.
- Prepare and distribute quarterly pledge balance statements and annual tax statements.
- Prepare all invoices for payment, working with the responsible departments for approval. Ensure all 1099 employees have proper paperwork and classification. Prepare 1099s at the end of the year.
- Prepare bi-monthly financial reports for the staff.
- Work with the Administrator to prepare for an internal or external audit.
- Serves as backup for submitting payroll
Minimum Qualifications:
- 3 years’ experience in a bookkeeping position and an undergraduate degree in Accounting, Business, or related degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to communicate using multiple platforms: text, email, phone, etc.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft 365
- High skill level in working with accounting software. Previous experience working with Shelby is a plus but not required.
