UNIT Solutions, a fast-growing designer and manufacturer of proprietary, non-lethal training systems for military and law enforcement personnel, is seeking a Financial Controller to oversee all financial operations and ensure the company's fiscal health. This key leadership role involves strategic planning, cash and inventory purchasing management, financial statements and KPI reporting, and ensuring compliance in a manufacturing environment with federal, state, and local government customers. The Financial Controller will report directly to the President.

Job Description

The Financial Controller is responsible for overseeing financial reporting, budgeting, production cost analysis, compliance, and strategic financial leadership while managing core accounting cycles and external relationships.​

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Compliance

  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow).
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and internal controls.
  • Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
  • Oversee external audits and resolve findings.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis

  • Lead annual budgeting and collaborate with department heads.
  • Provide financial forecasts, variance analysis, and cost-saving recommendations.
  • Conduct financial modeling, ROI analysis, and risk assessments for strategic decisions.

Operational & Production Finance

  • Manage all financial aspects of production and inventory.
  • Analyze production costs, variances, and trends.
  • Perform cost accounting for raw materials, labor, overhead, and inventory valuation.
  • Partner with engineering and operations to drive cost-down initiatives and value engineering.

Strategic Leadership

  • Collaborate with senior leadership on long-term financial strategies.
  • Evaluate investment opportunities and capital expenditures.
  • Develop and monitor key performance metrics.

Team & Relationship Management

  • Supervise and mentor the finance and accounting team.
  • Maintain external relationships with banks, auditors, insurance brokers, and lenders.

Required Qualifications and Skills

Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master's or CPA preferred).

Experience: 7-10 years progressive finance/accounting experience, including leadership roles. Manufacturing experience (aerospace/defense preferred).​

Physical Demands

The employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods, work at a computer, and use hands and arms to operate a keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment. The employee may occasionally be required to stand, walk, reach, and move about the office or production floor to attend meetings, review documents, or liaise with operations staff. The role may occasionally require lifting and/or moving up to 20 pounds (e.g., files, binders, laptops, or small office equipment).
