What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate Interior Designer – Workplace position at Unispace?
Associate Designer – Workplace Interiors
Boston | Unispace
We are looking for an Associate Designer who can lead, influence, and deliver — someone who doesn’t just design spaces, but drives projects, teams, and client relationships forward.
At Unispace, design is not a standalone function — it’s embedded across the entire project lifecycle. From strategy through to delivery, we partner with some of the world’s most ambitious brands to create workplaces that are intelligent, high-performing, and built for the way people work today.
This is an opportunity to step into a senior, leadership-facing role within a globally recognised design-and-build business — where you will take ownership of projects, mentor teams, and play a key role in shaping both design outcomes and client experience.
The Role
As an Associate Designer, you will operate as a senior figure within the design team, leading workplace and commercial interior projects from concept through to construction delivery.
You’ll balance creative direction, technical delivery, and client engagement, working across a fully integrated model that brings design, strategy, and construction together seamlessly.
This is a role for someone who is confident leading conversations, managing stakeholders, and driving projects forward, while maintaining a high level of design and technical quality.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Leading projects across all stages — concept, schematic design, design development, and construction documentation
- Acting as a key client interface, building trust and guiding design direction
- Driving design leadership across multiple projects, ensuring quality, consistency, and innovation
- Overseeing technical delivery, including drawing packages, detailing, and Revit-based documentation
- Coordinating with internal teams and external consultants (MEP, AV, lighting, etc.) to ensure seamless execution
- Managing budgets, timelines, and project delivery, ensuring commercial and design success
- Mentoring and developing junior designers, elevating team capability and output
- Supporting business development activity — presentations, proposals, and client engagement
What We’re Looking For
- 10 years’ experience in workplace or commercial interior design
- Proven ability to lead projects end-to-end, from concept through to site delivery
- Strong technical capability, including construction documentation, detailing, and FF&E
- Advanced proficiency in Revit and design tools
- Confident in client-facing environments, presentations, and stakeholder management
- Experience leading teams and mentoring designers
- A balance of creative thinking, technical expertise, and commercial awareness
