Unique HCC, Inc. is a comprehensive behavioral health program dedicated to serving children and youth with special needs, including those with Autism and other behavioral concerns. We operate under the NJ Children’s System of Care, providing vital support and services to promote positive development and well-being.
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Support Counselor to join our team. The Support Counselor will play a crucial role in assisting children and youth with disabilities by providing behavioral support, mentoring, and guidance. This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable populations while working within a collaborative and supportive environment.
- Provide direct support to children and youth with special needs, implementing individualized care plans tailored to each client’s needs.
- Assist in developing and maintaining positive behavioral strategies that promote social skills, emotional regulation, and independence.
- Collaborate with families, caregivers, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure consistent support across settings.
- Engage in conflict management by mediating disputes and fostering a safe, respectful environment for clients.
- Support educational activities by assisting with teaching, childcare, and mentoring efforts that enhance developmental progress.
- Document client progress accurately and maintain detailed records of interventions and services provided.
- Participate in ongoing training related to special education, behavioral health, child welfare, and social work best practices.
- Knowledge of special education principles and experience working with individuals with disabilities.
- Strong background in behavioral health, social work, or child welfare services.
- Proven ability to work effectively with children, demonstrating patience, empathy, and active listening skills.
- Skilled in conflict management techniques to de-escalate challenging situations constructively.
- Experience in mentoring or teaching children within diverse settings is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication skills for collaborating with families, team members, and external agencies.
