Job Title: Accountant
Status: Full Time – 12 Month Position
Reports To: Business Manager
Position Summary: The Accountant will inspect and review, but may also prepare and report, financial transactions and budgetary controls for assigned funds and departments. This position will develop and maintain program-level plans, budgets, forecasts and performance reports. Specifically, the Accountant/Auditor will reconcile programs, estimate costs, support grants development, manage fund allocation and provide quarterly insight into program performance in-terms of budgets vs. forecasts vs. actuals. This position is responsible for assisting in providing the independent local and state auditors with the financial statements of UASD in accordance with GASB including Single Audit Requirements. Additionally, this position is responsible for assisting with preparation of quarterly and year-end reports and assisting staff in understanding the accounting procedures necessary for individual programs.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
- Assists in providing Auditors with documentation necessary to perform audit
- Assists in preparing documents and financial statements for auditors
- Ensure compliance with Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) Standards, Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Best Practices and Advisories, U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Guidance, and other Federal, State and Local regulatory directives.
- Prepares, analyzes complex financial reports including monthly financial statements, trial balance statements, budget transfers, cost studies, cash flow analysis, and revenue and expenditure projections as requested.
- plans and monitors timelines to meet strict deadlines in reporting regulations and ensures the timely and accurate reporting of data to Federal and State authorities
- Assists in reviewing all budgets for compliance with directives from PDE
- Assists in the preparation for Audit, Management’s Discussion and Analysis, AFR and Act 24 Report
- Assists with entering final expenditure report into E-grant system after preparing year end trial balances
- Assists in budget preparation
- Oversees Accounts Payable/Receivable for coding and program accuracy
- Assist in reviewing bank reconciliations including accuracy with the accounting software reconciliation
- Assist with monitoring Program Budgets
- Maintain a positive working relationship with UASD staff and outside agencies
- Assure that proper documentation is maintained and accessible to key program staff relative to all project activities specified in project narratives and budgets
- Maintain effective communications with, and provide regular program summaries to the Business Manger
- Maintain accurate files and records of all program activities
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or Designee
Education and Experience
- Degree in Accounting
- 3 - 5 years of Professional Experience
- Experience in School Business is preferred.

- Knowledge of auditing controls and procedures.
- Knowledge of database and spreadsheet computer applications, such as Microsoft Access, Excel or similar applications.
- Ability to analyze and interpret reports, financial data, and electronic information to determine accuracy and compliance with rules and regulations.
