Location: Denver, CO | Hybrid: In-office at least 1 day per week (RiNo neighborhood)
Job Type: Full-Time
Pay Range: $65k–$85k per year
UnionHub is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Payments Engineer to join our team. This role ensures the accuracy, reliability, and efficiency of our payment operations, providing both technical and analytical support across our engineering and finance teams.
You’ll play a key role in maintaining smooth payment processes—monitoring transactions, identifying anomalies, and improving tools and workflows that support our merchant and financial systems. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who thrives at the intersection of technology, finance, and operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and support daily payment operations, including transaction monitoring, reconciliation, reporting, and ledger adjustments.
- Investigate and resolve payment issues such as failed transactions, chargebacks, and returns, and identify root causes to prevent recurrence.
- Serve as a technical liaison between engineering, finance, and operations to ensure payment systems run seamlessly.
- Support engineering teams in maintaining integrations with payment facilitators (PayFacs), gateways, and banking APIs.
- Develop, document, and maintain standard operating procedures for payment workflows to ensure compliance with internal and regulatory standards.
- Contribute to internal tooling and automation to improve visibility, reconciliation, and reporting across payment operations.
Ideal Candidate
You thrive in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment and enjoy solving complex operational and technical challenges. You’re equally comfortable working with SQL and dashboards as you are with logs and code snippets. You’re curious about how money moves—and passionate about making payment systems smoother, safer, and smarter.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, Business Administration, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
- Experience with SQL and data manipulation, including financial reporting and reconciliation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Hands-on experience with DevOps or technical operations in a SaaS or financial services environment.
- Proficiency with git and modern branching workflows.
- Strong communication and documentation skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
- Familiarity with .NET, C#, and RESTful architectures.
- Solid understanding of payment gateways and payment processors, including integration workflows and transaction lifecycle management.
- Experience with ledger and accounting systems, including balance sheet reconciliation and settlement processes.
- Knowledge of financial operations, such as chargebacks, payouts, and reconciliations between internal ledgers and external processors.
- Working knowledge of payment system architecture, APIs, and troubleshooting production payment issues.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with payment processors, merchant accounts, or multi-gateway environments.
- Familiarity with Azure DevOps tools and agile delivery processes.
- Knowledge of data security and compliance best practices (e.g., PCI DSS).
- Background in Payments, Fintech, Insurance, or Banking industries.
