Paid Job Training Opportunity | Dining & Community Engagement Coordinator

Looking to gain paid, hands-on experience while building your professional skills? Serve with Sojourner Truth Ministries through CORE Susquehanna AmeriCorps and develop real-world experience in volunteer management, community engagement, nonprofit operations, hospitality leadership, and partnership development.

This AmeriCorps position is designed as a job training opportunity for individuals interested in careers in nonprofit management, human services, hospitality management, community engagement, volunteer management, public administration, or public service. You'll receive mentorship, professional development, and meaningful experience while helping strengthen volunteer engagement, enhance the guest experience, and connect community members with valuable resources.

Recent graduates, career changers, and individuals looking to build professional experience are encouraged to apply. No previous nonprofit or hospitality experience is required—we provide the training and support you need to succeed.

Compensation

Three-Quarter Time AmeriCorps Service Term
August 31, 2026 – August 14, 2027 (1,200-hours)

• $15,116 total living allowance
• $5,176.50 Segal AmeriCorps Education Award upon successful completion of service

Schedule

Approximately 30 hours per week

Typical service occurs during daytime hours.

• Saturday service is required each week.
• Remaining weekday hours are scheduled collaboratively with the site supervisor based on program needs.
• Occasional evening service may be required for volunteer appreciation events, community outreach activities, special events, or CORE Susquehanna trainings. Approved teleservice may be available for certain service activities.

Primary Responsibilities

• Coordinate volunteer recruitment, scheduling, orientation, and ongoing communication
• Help create a welcoming, safe, and inclusive dining environment for guests
• Support daily dining room operations alongside staff and volunteers
• Develop community engagement activities and educational programming before meal service
• Build relationships with community organizations, churches, schools, businesses, and civic groups
• Connect guests with available community resources under staff guidance
• Coordinate community donation drives and volunteer appreciation activities
• Assist with community outreach events and partnership development
• Collect volunteer participation and guest engagement data
• Support grant research, reporting, and program development
• Participate in AmeriCorps orientation, trainings, and professional development

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Eligible to serve in AmeriCorps
• Ability to pass the required National Service Criminal History Checks
• Reliable transportation preferred
• Ability to work respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds
• Ability to work in an active, fast-paced environment and assist with routine setup, cleanup, and lifting of supplies as needed
