What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time Music Director position at Union Ridge Church?
This position is responsible for developing and maintaining the music
of the church in a way that honors God and enhances the worship experience.
Duties:
- Sundays: 10:00 a.m.–12:00 noon – Worship Preparation and Worship Service
- Other times as needed for: selection, preparation, and arrangement of all music; funerals as requested; rehearsals for soloists and ensembles; special seasonal services and functions (Christmas, Easter season)
- Schedule all worship music, including vocal (choir, small ensembles, soloists) and instrumentalists (band, pianist/organist, accompanist).
- Work closely with the pastor(s) and worship committee to ensure the music for weekly worship is thematic with the sermon or topic of the worship service. This will include selecting appropriate music, preparing it for worship, teaching it to the involved personnel, and integrating it into the service.
- Work with the pastor(s) and worship committee to ensure seasonal music for special services (including but not limited to Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Thanksgiving, Advent, and Christmas Eve).
- Schedule and rehearse with small groups and ensembles throughout the year, including during the summer months for outside services.
- Ensure the musicians (instrumentalists) needed for any given Sunday (or special service) are given copies of the music at least four (4) days prior to the worship service.
- Ensure music is provided and notify pastor of music during PTO or Bereavement leave.
- Work with Youth Pastor and Youth and Children's Committees to build children and youth participation in the music program.
- Attend the quarterly meetings of the Official Board to be held the 2nd Sundays in January, April, July, and October. At the meeting, provide a quarterly report of music. Attend all called meetings.
Qualifications:
- Must have experience in directing a small vocal ensemble and a choir which utilizes varied instrumentation accompaniment.
- Must have the ability to work from printed music AND listen to a recorded song and be able to chart or teach it to the vocalist.
- Must be familiar with online retrieval of songs and arrangements.
- Must be flexible and able to change and adapt music at the last minute.
