POSITION DESCRIPTION: DIRECTOR OF CHILD DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS

DEFINITION

The Director of Child Development Programs will plan, coordinate, and maintain comprehensive, positive, and age-appropriate child development programs that will enhance the physical, social, intellectual, and emotional development of participating children.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • California Child Center Program Director Permit
  • Knowledge of laws, policies, procedures, regulations, and business practices to the effective management of Child Development programs in California.
  • Knowledge of effective principles of instructional practices in Child Development programs. Knowledge of the NAEYC Accreditation process.
  • Knowledge of district policies and procedures for management of classified staff.
  • Has completed pediatric CPR and First aid training through an accredited or approved program and holds a current pediatric CPR and first aid certificate.
  • Fingerprint clearance by both the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department of Justice is a condition of appointment after all other required job conditions have been met.
  • Able to lift 50 pounds, move quickly, bend, squat, kneel, and sit on floor.
  • Must be able to work safely in an environment that may contain biological conditions such as bodily fluids and waste, germs, and diseases.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitor and maintain all Union Hill District Child Development programs to ensure compliance with applicable District, State, and Federal laws, regulations and guidelines.
  • Maintain high quality standards for all district Child Development programs.
  • Direct and coordinate program activities ensuring programmatic and fiscal compliance with the State Department of Education's contracting terms and conditions on programs funded by the Child Development Division.
  • Maintain records and/or files for the purpose of documenting information for and/or complying with local, state, and federal laws.
  • Develop and maintain program budgets; analyze and review budgetary and financial data; monitor and authorize expenditures in accordance with established guidelines and submit state reports.
  • Recruit and select employees and provide appropriate training for new and existing staff.
  • Supervise and evaluate all child development staff.
  • Ensures adequate daily staffing according to child/teacher ratios and staff permit requirements.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate instructional programs to enhance the cognitive development of all children, including those who require special assistance.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate programs for parents which strengthen understanding of human growth and development and enhance parenting skills.
  • Provide effective communication to parents, Union Hill School District staff, Board Trustees, and the community about the district's Child Development programs and services. Provide leadership in early childhood education on district committees.
  • Serve as a liaison for the district with city, county, state, federal, and other community groups and organizations related to Child Development and Early Childhood Education programs.
  • Work in collaboration with Union Hill administration and staff to ensure articulation between school programs and Child Development programs.
  • Ensures that staff understands and uses authorized emergency and safety procedures, and universal health procedures.
  • Trains and monitors staff to ensure confidentiality regarding all personal information about the children, and families.
  • Instructs staff on procedures for Child Abuse reporting, and insures they understand the responsibility for action, as mandated by law.
  • Ensures that all sites maintains inventory of equipment and supplies, and ensures that they are available and in good repair.
  • Inspects and reviews that all fire and other emergency drills occur on a regular basis.
  • Ability to perform other tasks as assigned.

PROFESSIONAL EVALUATION CRITERIA

Yearly evaluation will be based on the abilities of the Director of Child Development Program to interpret and apply rules and regulation relating to Child Development programs under the CA State Education Code and the Department of Social Services Community Care Licensing; Supervise and evaluate assigned personnel; Ensure adequate staffing to meet required child/staff ratio; Establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of groups and individuals, including, staff, parents and the community; Prepare and write comprehensive, effective oral and written reports; Effectively advise personnel; Plan and organize work; Meet schedules and timelines; effectively communicate verbally and in writing to express ideas, thoughts, and instructions to parents, community, and staff, regardless of ethnic, racial, religious background or socio-economic level; Collaborate effectively; Produce and maintain an effective educational program for all children participating the in the Child Development program; Provide high quality professional development for staff, and training for parents on effective strategies to meet the needs of children in the Child Development program.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $73,471.00 - $108,796.00 per year
