QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid licensure and/or necessary education
- Prior sponsor experience preferred
- Completion of all required training
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
DIRECT SUPERVISOR: 7-12 Activities Director
JOB GOAL: Promote sportsmanship and teamwork while helping students master the skills necessary to excel in their specific activity in a safe, productive and well-organized environment. .
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Promote sportsmanship and teamwork while helping students master the skills necessary to compete and excel in their specific sport in a safe, productive and well-organized athletic program that aims to benefit all athletes.
- Adhere to applicable state and federal laws, rules and regulations, board policies and administrative rules.
- Demonstrate organization and professionalism in fulfilling the responsibilities of the position.
- Maintain a “service orientation” and treat all students, parents, staff, and visitors with professional courtesy.
- Demonstrate a positive attitude toward school, students and job while communicating the same to the community.
- Attend seminars, trainings, classes, and professional development as needed to stay current with state and federal regulations and requirements and maintain licensure.
- Dress appropriately for the position and work required.
- Accept constructive criticism and suggestions while seeking to improve each performance responsibility.
- Maintain professionalism related to confidentiality of student records and the school operation.
- Coach individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport involved.
- Plan and schedule a regular program of practice in season.
- Work closely with the activities director in scheduling intramural and interscholastic contests.
- Recommend purchase of equipment, supplies, and uniforms as appropriate.
- Maintain necessary attendance forms, insurance records, and similar paperwork.
- Oversee the safety conditions of the facility or area in which assigned sport is conducted at all times that students are present.
- Establish performance criteria for eligibility in interscholastic competition in the coach’s sport.
- Enforce discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times, and establish and oversee penalties for breach of such standards by individual students.
- Work cooperatively with Bus Drivers and Transportation Director to ensure safe and efficient transportation of student athletes to and from sporting events.
- Supervise student athletes at all time during school sanctioned practices and events to ensure safety and respectful and appropriate behavior towards teammates, competitors, and both home and away facilities and equipment.
- Keep building administrators informed of any injuries or behavior concerns.
- Ride a school bus or drive school vehicles to carry out responsibilities of the position.
- Other duties as assigned.
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year to be determined by the board in consultation with the superintendent.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of Board Policy.
