CLASSROOM LEAD TEACHER
QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Teacher I Associate degree in child development or early childhood education or equivalent coursework. Hourly Rate $24.07
Teacher II Bachelor’s degree in child development or early childhood education or equivalent coursework Hourly Rate $32.07
Teacher III Master’s degree in child development or early childhood education. Hourly Rate $34.36
GENERAL FUNCTIONS: Under the supervision of the Education Coordinator, the lead teacher is responsible for providing a stimulating environment for the growth, well-being and development of the child being sure to arrive to work each day, on time, and ready to start your day.
SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS:
The Classroom Teacher will, at a minium, conduct and be responsible for the following along with other duties as assigned by the Leadership Team:
Arrive to work at 7:45am each day prior to children arriving to prepare for the day.
1. Maintain responsibility for ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all children who are enrolled in the classroom which includes ensuring that no child is ever left alone with a volunteer, visitor or guest.
2. Take actions to ensure a culture of safety with a focus on active supervision and maintaining child to staff ratios at all times.
3. Provide ongoing training, supervision and evaluation of Assistant Teachers, volunteers, visitors, students
4. Select materials and equipment and arrange the room to provide an environment conducive to learning, appropriate for early childhood developmental conducive to the learning styles of the children, and meets MSDE Accreditation standards
5. Provide a safe healthy environment by taking necessary measures to reduce and prevent accidents and /or illness on a daily basis.
6. Provide the group with a positive routine and simple rules that are understood and accepted by children and adults.
7. Provide a variety of appropriate equipment, activities, and opportunities to enhance the physical, social emotional, and educational development of children.
8. Provide activities and experiences which encourage questioning, probing and problem-solving skills appropriate and are individualized to the developmental level and learning styles of each child.
9. Help children to acquire, extend, and use language as a means of communicating their thoughts, feelings and understanding of others.
10. Provide a variety of experiences and media that stimulates children to explore and express their creative ability.
11. Help children to know, accept, appreciate themselves as individuals, and develop a sense of independence to express, understand and control feelings.
12. Help the child to learn to get along with others and encourage feeling of mutual respect among children in the within their classroom community
13. Establish positive and productive relationships with parents and caregivers and encourage them to participate in all aspects of the Head Start Program and its services.
14. Plan and conduct regular parent/teacher conferences and home visits (on site).
15. Work cooperatively with other staff members in the implementation of center plans, activities, policies, rules, standards of conduct, and serve as primary resource person for the Class Committee.
16. Be responsible for the initial-ongoing observation, assessment, recording of each child's development, create an education plan for each child, develop weekly lesson and make appropriate referrals based upon assessments and team planning sessions.
17. Be responsible for all necessary record keeping, (e.g. sign in/out sheet, meal count, attendance, documentation of individualizing for each child, etc.).
18. Follow written policies and regulations established by the program, licensing, and the grantee.
19. Participate in workshops, staff wellness activites, seminars, complete professional development assignments, any additional assigned training programs to maintain a minimum of 15 clock hours of training per year.
20. complete daily health and safety checks, inspections and report the need for repair/replacement of classroom supplies and equipment.
21. Toilet Training (Potty Training) as needed this includes assisitng children (3-4) with changing pullups when needed.
21. All other duties as assigned
