Job Description
Position: Pre-Kindergarten Teacher
FLSA Status: Exempt
Reports to: Pre-Kindergarten Director
Purpose: To plan, organize, and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills contributing to their educational and social development—while also supporting and guiding colleagues through instructional leadership.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead the planning, presentation, and assessment of the curriculum as defined in the North Carolina Standard Course of Study, ensuring alignment across team members and providing guidance on best practices.
Serve as an instructional model while managing approximately 20 students at a time (subject to variation), and support other teachers with strategies for effective student engagement and classroom management.
Collaborate with the instructional staff and administration to lead the ongoing evaluation of curriculum and program effectiveness at Union Academy Private PreKindergarten. Facilitate curriculum discussions and help implement improvements across classrooms.
Provide high-quality instruction that reflects school expectations and meets the diverse educational needs of all students, while mentoring peers in differentiated instruction and inclusive practices.
Maintain open, professional communication with students, families, colleagues, and administrators. Serve as a liaison between your teaching team and school leadership to support alignment and problem-solving.
Model effective planning, record-keeping, resource management, and environmental organization. Guide and support colleagues in improving these instructional support practices to maximize effectiveness.
Ensure a safe and supportive learning environment through diligent supervision practices and by mentoring peers on consistent safety expectations and procedures.
Embrace and promote a culture of professionalism, taking responsibility for personal growth and actively supporting the development of fellow educators through mentorship, modeling, and collaboration.Implement personal growth goals and objectives, as well as support the instructional team’s alignment with school improvement initiatives.
Desired Training and Hands-On experience: 4 year Education Degree with experience

Physical Requirements: Must be able to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools such as computers, copiers, typewriters, calculators, pencils, scissors, and equipment for children with special needs, etc. Must be able to exert a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Due to the amount of time spent standing and/or walking, physical requirements are consistent with those for Light Work.
Terms of Employment: Salary and work year as established by the Board. Teachers must be highly qualified (HQT) or working toward securing this status.
Assessment: Performance of this job will be assessed annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on assessment of administrative personnel.
