Job Title: HR Generalist
Location: Newark, CA
Reports to: Executive VP
Department: Human Resources

Job Summary: The HR Generalist in a manufacturing environment will support daily HR functions and handle a wide range of human resources activities, including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, compliance, training, and safety programs. The role is designed to ensure the smooth operation of the HR department in alignment with organizational goals and regulatory requirements specific to manufacturing. The HR Generalist will collaborate with production and management teams to maintain a productive, safe, and compliant workforce.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Employee Relations:
    • Serve as a point of contact for employee inquiries, concerns, and issues, fostering positive relationships between employees and management.
    • Support conflict resolution, mediate disputes, and conduct investigations into employee grievances in a fair and consistent manner.
    • Promote employee engagement initiatives to boost morale and retention, such as recognition programs, events, and feedback systems.
  2. Compliance & Policy Administration:
    • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal employment laws (e.g., wage and hour laws, OSHA regulations, FMLA, EEO).
    • Develop and maintain employee policies and procedures that align with manufacturing operations and safety requirements.
    • Conduct audits and maintain employee records in accordance with regulatory standards.
  3. Performance Management & Development:
    • Support performance evaluation processes, including 90-day and annual reviews, performance improvement plans, and ongoing coaching.
    • Collaborate with supervisors and managers to identify skill gaps and coordinate training programs for staff development, especially for production roles.
    • Provide guidance on disciplinary actions, ensuring fairness and consistency across all departments.
  4. Health & Safety:
    • Coordinate with the Safety Manager or team to ensure workplace safety policies are communicated and enforced, including safety training and accident reporting.
    • Partner with production supervisors to promote a safety-first culture and reduce workplace incidents.
    • Administer workers' compensation claims and maintain OSHA-required records for manufacturing employees.
  5. Payroll & Benefits Administration:
    • Payroll processing by ensuring accurate timesheet submissions, resolving discrepancies, and managing employee time-off requests.
    • Administer employee benefits programs, including health insurance, 401(k), and other perks, ensuring employees understand their options and enrollment procedures.
    • Monitor and ensure compliance with wage and hour regulations, including overtime pay, break periods, and shift differentials common in manufacturing environments.
  6. HR Data Management & Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records using HRIS systems and generate reports on key HR metrics such as turnover, absenteeism, headcount, and training progress.
    • Track employee performance, training, certifications, and other qualifications required for manufacturing positions.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: Up to 3years of HR experience, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Certifications: HR certification (e.g., PHR, SHRM-CP) is a plus.
  • Knowledge:
    • Familiarity with manufacturing processes and understanding of workforce needs in a production environment.
    • Working knowledge of employment laws, OSHA regulations, and workers’ compensation in a manufacturing context.
    • Experience with HRIS software and payroll systems.
  • Skills:
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with employees at all levels of the organization.
    • Problem-solving and conflict resolution skills, with a focus on improving employee relations and maintaining a positive workplace culture.
    • High attention to detail, especially in compliance, reporting, and record-keeping.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk the production floor and occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Flexibility to adjust work hours to support multiple shifts (if needed).

 

Salary : $70,000 - $85,000
