Petroleum Technician/Tester

Unified’s petroleum technicians/testers are on job sites, performing the various testing, inspections, troubleshooting and repairs necessary for each fuel facility and recording all findings.

We are looking for people who:

  • Have a mechanical aptitude, any experience in trades, agriculture and/or experience in any industrial/commercial settings (HVAC, plumbing, mechanics, electricians, carpenters, etc), experience conducting regulatory inspections.
  • Can lift up to 50lbs as well as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, etc.
  • Adhere to a DOT physical & drug screen, DMV check, and background check, all of which are subject to applicable federal, state, and local law.
  • Can be consistent with applicable laws and follow strict safety and technical protocols.
  • Able to work independently (after you are trained that is) and has basic knowledge of technical devices such as a smartphone.
  • Are able to communicate effectively.
  • Have established organizational and planning skills.
  • Can troubleshoot and utilize problem solving skills in unique situations.

  • What are the primary responsibilities of a Compliance Technician/Petroleum Tester?

    • 70% Compliance Testing: Performs a variety of fuel containment tests, equipment integrity tests, and leak-detection tests in order to detect leaks or to prevent future leaks due to non-compliance or equipment failure. Enter and analyze test results and be able to communicate any issues or findings to the Compliance Manager for further direction.
    • 10%: Inspections: Conducts inspections of equipment and sites referring to regulations, policies and customer requirements. Provides unbiased, fact-based results and correction advice on site to provide outstanding customer service.
    • 10% Service Repairs: Complete maintenance and minor repairs of underground fuel systems. Install equipment and or testing UST system components as requested/required. Perform manual construction work and equipment operation as described.
    • 5%: Safety Management: Inspects, maintains and wears personal protective equipment. Equipment inspection, maintenance and operation. Inspects equipment before and after operation and documents deficiencies in accordance with DOT regulations and company policy. Manage and report inventory of parts and supplies on company vehicle.
    • 5%: Mobile-device based administration and documentation: Utilizes mobile devices to plan, track and document job data including vehicle maintenance and operation, work order progress, personnel status and working hours. Responds to a variety of communication methods such as email, text messages, phone calls and application alerts in an appropriate time frame.


    Our crews work Monday through Friday in various parts of the Midwest. Motel and per diem is provided.

    This position requires traveling up to 4 days a week.

    Requirements:

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
    • Established organizational and planning skills.
    • Clean driving record.


    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience: 2 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Experience with performing state/federal inspections.
    • Licenses: CDL-B or A license with hazardous waste endorsement preferred.
    • Certifications: HAZWOPER 40 certification and State-issued UST Inspector license. Manufacturer's certifications for Automated Tank Gauges, Submersible Turbine Pumps, Pressurized/Mechanical/Electronic line-leak detection preferred. Once hired, employees must maintain HAZWOPER40 and state-issued inspector's licenses.
    • Technical Abilities: Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of complicated tasks. Able to perform manual labor, heavy equipment inspection and operation and basic administrative tasks using mobile devices.
    • Autonomy/Direction: A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Must have the ability to travel overnight over 50%.


    Working Conditions:

    • Working Hazards: Works in an environment with potential exposure to fumes, dirt, noise, equipment movement dangers, confined spaces, vibrations, dangerous chemical/solvents, electrical shock, and inclement temperature extremes.
    • Physical/Mental Exertion Ability to perform heavy physical labor exerting up to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis and up to 50 pounds of force on a frequent basis performing such tasks as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping and fingering.
    • Tools and Equipment: Ability to perform manual construction work and equipment operation as described. Knowledge and experience with computer programs (Adobe, Google Workspace).

    Pay: $20.00 - $27.00 per hour

    Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
