Purpose of Position

This position reports to the Dean of Libraries & Information Resources. This position develops, creates, and leads the marketing and communications needs of the Chester Fritz Library, branch libraries and the UND Art Collections. They work with all departments and committees of the library on promotion of library events and services. Interfaces with UND Marketing and Alumni Association, local media outlets, regional partners and stakeholders regarding Library branding and activities.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate the marketing of library events and services 
    • Work with Library Dean, departments, and committees to create a marketing plan. 
    • Coordinate the development, production, and distribution of traditional and digital communications including printed publications, direct mail, signage, website, emails, videos, texting, social media, etc., in an effective and efficient manner. 
    • Work with web librarian on posting marketing content on the library’s website. 
    • Work with web librarian to improve website optimization activities and social media content strategies related to marketing. 
    • Assist with creation of marketing materials for UND Art Collections exhibitions and events. 
  • Manage a communications program 
    • Create and manage social media and email communications and other messaging campaigns. 
    • Work with Fundraising Team to create tools to communicate with donors, i.e., newsletters, invitations, cards. 
    • Communicate with various campus administrative offices and outside vendors to manage print, direct mail and promotional item projects. 
    • Assist with ordering promotional items and printed publications following UND Procurement procedures. 
  • Supervise marketing student employees 
    • Hire, train and supervise student employees. 
    • Assign content creation tasks for upcoming events and projects. 
    • Assist with writing, editing and proofreading for enhanced clarity and/or creativity in messaging.
  • Assist with event planning 
    • Maintain current mailing lists. 
    • Schedule events with campus and library calendars. 
    • Communicate with event organizers. 
  • Assess marketing and communications/outreach efforts 
    • Assess, monitor and analyze Library marketing and outreach activities. 
    • Maintain metrics on marketing, event and outreach activities. 
    • Prepare analyses to develop insights and make recommendations to optimize outreach activities. 
    • Stay up to date on the latest trends and changes to ensure strong click-through rates, traffic, conversions, views, etc.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Business or a related field
  • 1 year of experience working with marketing and/or communications in a professional setting
  • Experience with designing outreach and marketing materials (brochures, flyers, social media posts, tabling materials, etc.)
  • Successful completion of a Standard Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional experience in higher education or libraries
  • Project management and/or event management experience
  • Advanced computer/software tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Word Press, Canva, Mail Chimp, Microsoft Office, social media platforms, etc.
  • Experience with marketing campaigns, brand management and/or marketing strategy
  • Experience with graphic design and/or video creation to support social media and marketing outreach
