Position Summary

The Cultural Security Officer plays a critical role in protecting museum assets, ensuring the safety of visitors and staff, and supporting daily operations within a world-class cultural institution. Working within a technologically advanced security environment, including a centralized command center, this position provides a professional security presence while safeguarding collections, exhibits, facilities, and museum operations.

Officers are responsible for monitoring security and building management systems, conducting patrols, responding to incidents and emergencies, identifying hazards, and maintaining compliance with museum policies and procedures. This position requires flexibility to work days, evenings, overnight shifts, weekends, holidays, and special events as operational needs dictate.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Previous experience in security operations, museums, cultural institutions, facilities management, hospitality, customer service, public safety, or related fields preferred
  • Current CPR certification required or willingness to obtain certification upon hire
  • Reliable transportation and a strong attendance record required
  • Due to limited public transportation options in the Andover area, candidates must have dependable means of transportation to and from work
  • Preference will be given to applicants residing in Andover and surrounding communities
  • Retired law enforcement personnel, military veterans, criminal justice students, and local college students are encouraged to apply
  • Ability to pass all required background screenings and employment verification requirements
  • Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Basic computer proficiency and familiarity with security technology systems
  • Entry-level dispatch, communications, or command center experience preferred

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Monitor security alarms, CCTV surveillance systems, access control systems, and HVAC/building management software
  • Operate within the museum's security command center and dispatch environment
  • Conduct routine and randomized foot patrols in accordance with established post orders
  • Respond promptly and professionally to alarms, incidents, emergencies, and requests for assistance
  • Identify, document, and report safety concerns, security vulnerabilities, and environmental hazards
  • Enforce museum policies, gallery regulations, event procedures, and access control protocols
  • Complete accurate incident reports, activity logs, dispatch records, and daily operational documentation
  • Assist with emergency evacuations, shelter-in-place procedures, and crisis response activities
  • Coordinate communications between security personnel, management, emergency responders, and museum staff when necessary
  • Provide after-hours support and emergency response as required
  • Support the protection of museum collections, exhibits, equipment, and facilities
  • Participate in departmental training programs, drills, seminars, and professional development opportunities
  • Maintain effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, contractors, visitors, and public safety agencies
  • Assist in maintaining the integrity and proper operation of security systems and related equipment

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of physical security principles, emergency response procedures, and incident management practices
  • Ability to assess situations quickly and make sound decisions during emergencies
  • Proficiency in operating computers, security monitoring platforms, dispatch systems, and electronic reporting software
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent observation, attention-to-detail, and situational awareness abilities
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while adhering to established policies and procedures
  • Professional demeanor and exceptional customer service skills

  • Flexibility to work rotating schedules, holidays, weekends, and special events
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately and consistently

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time
  • Ability to climb stairs and conduct regular patrols throughout the facility
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds on an occasional basis
  • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions when required
  • Ability to respond quickly and effectively to emergencies and security incidents

Work Environment

This position operates within a museum and cultural institution environment where professionalism, discretion, customer service, and attention to detail are essential. Officers may work in galleries, administrative offices, collection storage areas, event spaces, loading docks, exterior grounds, and the security command center. Flexibility in scheduling is required to support exhibitions, special events, facility operations, and emergency response needs.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $21.00 per hour
