Job Overview
The dam tender oversees dam operations, which often includes monitoring water levels, collecting and analyzing data, conducting assessments, maintaining equipment, and ensuring safety standards. They control machines that manage water traffic, operate dam gates, and maintain pool levels. In emergencies, they shut down equipment and assist with repairs. Daily tasks may involve inspections, operating hydro-electric generators, and handling telephone or radio calls. They also perform routine maintenance, snow removal, and grounds keeping.
The ideal applicant will have a solid background in maintenance and construction, strong decision-making skills, computer skills, be able to lift at least 50 lbs., be able to do basic math, and the ability to withstand inclement weather year-round. The dam tender must be well-organized and always focused on safety above all and at all times.
Must be on-site year round. Housing is provided
Must pass federal drug screen and background check
Duties/Responsibilities:
· Coordinate daily tasks according to priorities and plans, adjusting as necessary due to weather and supplies
· Emphasis on the safe use of tools, machinery, and equipment including training on safety gear, hard hats and procedures.
· Ability to work in all weather
· Collect and update water levels and flow data
· Perform safety and function inspections
· Maintain generators
· Building maintenance and repairs, including all electrical, plumbing, hydro facilities, cabins, and structures
· Snow removal on roadways and buildings.
· Handle emergency situations
Education and Experience:
· High school diploma or equivalent.
· Knowledge of construction best practices, equipment maintenance and use, and safety guidelines
· Understanding of use and maintenance of electrical and hydraulic
· Ability to communicate and report effectively
· Aptitude in math and strong problem-solving abilities
· Good physical condition and stamina
· A valid driver’s license (CDL preferred).
· Heavy equipment operation
Physical Requirements:
· Ability to lift 50 lbs, and be able to bend, twist, reach, pull, and push.
· Ability to do physical labor and other strenuous physical tasks.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
