Job Description: Sales Lead


Position Objective: The Sales Lead (SL) is responsible for assisting team leadership and overseeing a scope of daily operations and tasks. This role should be equipped and trained with a variety of leadership responsibilities and be available to act as the Manager on Duty (MOD) when leadership is out of the business. Ultimately, the training and job responsibilities as SL will fully prepare the SL as a potential successor to the ASM role. The SL ensures that the sales team operates efficiently, stays motivated, and meets the organization's sales objectives. They play a critical role in bridging the gap between the sales team and higher management, ensuring smooth operations and continuous improvement.


Primary Responsibilities:


  • Sales Performance:


    • Target Achievement: Ensure the team meets or exceeds sales targets and quotas. Regularly review sales performance metrics and KPIs. Align with ASM to understand daily plan numbers/quotas; encourage team selling behaviors and motivate selling on an hourly basis to ensure goals are met.

    • Sales Strategies: Develop and implement effective sales strategies and techniques. Lead by example on selling behaviors and best practices.


  • Leadership:


    • Team Motivation and Performance: Inspire and motivate the sales team to achieve their best. Maintaining customers and selling as the highest priorities. Manage ongoing feedback to ensure associates are performing at a high level. Handle coaching as applicable; work with ASM to escalate patterns and monitor documentation.

    • Training and Development: Conduct training sessions and continue to develop programs for the team. Ensure the sales team has the necessary tools and materials to succeed. Oversee and create engaging training games, activities, etc., to encourage ongoing development and product knowledge. Suggest contest ideas; work with ASM, Store Manager, and/or Director of Stores(DOS)  to create motivating incentives for the teams.

    • Task Supervision: Oversee the daily activities of the sales team and provide guidance. Act as managing leader during opening, closing, and/or daily operations. Support daily operation tasks as assigned by the ASM or SM. Monitor Associates’ sales behaviors and ensure adherence to sales floor behavior expectations; coach as necessary. Suggest social media content ideas to DOS and Digital Content Manager; oversee social media recording process if the store customer flow is slow. Monitor Zoning Chart and Walkie adherence with ASM.

    • Documentation: Ensure the Time and Attendance Log is up-to-date; maintain open communication with ASM and SM regarding any attendance patterns.

    • Process Improvement: Identify areas for improvement in the sales process and assist in implementing changes.

    • Skill Enhancement and Knowledge: Continuously develop your own selling behavior/skills. Stay up to date on trending sales tactics. Remain knowledgeable about UJ products/policies to stay effective in your sales role.


  • Customer Relationship Management:


    • Customer Interaction: Engage with key customers and build strong relationships. Lead by example with associates to model UJ sales behaviors. Oversee associates’ customer interactions; coach and provide feedback to associates regarding customer interactions.

    • Issue Resolution: Handle escalated customer complaints and issues to ensure customer satisfaction.


  • Sales Operations:


    • Lead Management: Lead the sales floor operations and ensure all customers are being effectively serviced. Aim to complete the sale with prospective customers. Work with ASM to delegate operational tasks and maintain status updates of given tasks with ASM.

    • Sales Processes: Streamline and optimize the sales process for efficiency. Encourage selling strategies/goals; motivate associates to add-on items to up UPT/ADS.


  • Sales Initiatives:


    • Promotions: Lead and execute sales promotions and campaigns as delegated by ASM. Work with ASM on new launch preparation, promotion/sale marketing, and event preparation. Oversee visual standards and execution of promotions, new launches, etc.

    • New Product Launches: Coordinate the sales team's efforts during new product launches. Delegate and oversee new launch tasking to/with associates. Ensure any and all communication updates are disseminated across the team, including but not limited to, new launch updates, upcoming sale/promo info, new product info, floor assignments, etc.


    Qualifications:



    • Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. A bachelor's degree in business administration, retail management, or a related field is preferred.

    • Retail Experience: Several years of experience in retail, with at least one to two years in a supervisory or managerial role.

    • Leadership: Proven experience in leading, training, and developing a team.

    • Sales: Strong background in sales and achieving sales targets.

    • Customer Service: Exceptional customer service skills with a focus on creating a positive shopping experience.

    • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with customers, staff, and senior management.

    • Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle challenging situations with a calm and professional demeanor.

    • Organizational Skills: Highly organized with the ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities efficiently.

    • Financial Acumen: Basic understanding of retail financials, including profit and loss statements, budgeting, and expense control.

    • Technology Proficiency: Proficient in using retail management software, point-of-sale systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.

    • Leadership: Strong leadership qualities with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.

    • Flexibility: Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and extended hours as needed.

    • Attention to Detail: Keen attention to detail to ensure store standards and compliance with company policies.

    • Dependability: Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
