Responsibilities
- Transports patients and relays pertinent patient information to appropriate teammates.
- Follows proper identification procedures to ensure transportation of the correct patient.
- Obtains appropriate transport equipment (e.g., wheelchair, stretcher, etc.) for the task.
- Monitors patient during transport and calls appropriate teammates if patient appears to be in distress.
- Provides appropriate life support equipment for patient transport. Monitors patient and calls appropriate teammates if patient is in distress.
- Obtains appropriate documentation to accompany the patient to his/her destination.
- Operates computerized transport system.
- Instructs Radiology teammates in the operation of portable oxygen equipment.
- May assist and monitor radiology patients.
- Prepares CT does kits for outside offices and prepares inpatients for CT dosing. May file and retrieve Radiology department film files.
- Cleans/sanitizes transport equipment after use. Returns all transport equipment to the proper storage area when not in use.
- Evaluates transport equipment for inventory and equipment maintenance. Notifies the Emergency Department Supervisor if repairs are required.
- Completes additional and routine tasks as assigned, e.g., removing linen and replacing oxygen tanks.
- Demonstrates professionalism, courtesy and tact in all patient, teammate, and provider interactions.
- Participates in continuing education and in-services as required.
- Applies knowledge of principles of standard precautions. Routinely uses personal protective equipment (PPE) to avoid risk of exposure to self and others.
- Exhibits knowledge and basic understanding regarding the needs of neonatal, adolescent, pediatric, adult and geriatric patients, and the cultural needs of all patients.
