What are the responsibilities and job description for the Clinical Exercise Specialist position at UNC Health Southeastern?

POSITION SUMMARY: The Clinical Exercise Specialist (CES) works with patients and clients challenged with cardiovascular, pulmonary, and metabolic diseases and disorders to enhance quality of life, manage health risk, and promote lasting behavior change. The CES conducts preparticipation health screening, maximal and submaximal graded exercise tests, and performs strength, flexibility, and body composition assessments. The CES develops and administers programs designed to enhance cardiorespiratory fitness, muscular strength and endurance, balance, and range of motion. The CES helps maintain the patient’s medical record and assists the program coordinator with strategic initiatives to enhance the delivery of cardiopulmonary rehabilitation services and departmental growth.

EDUCATION, CREDENTIALS, TRAINING and EXPERIENCE:

Minimum Required: Bachelor’s degree in exercise physiology, exercise or movement science, or kinesiology. Minimum 1-year applicable experience and/or internship with cardiopulmonary patients in the areas of exercise testing, training, and patient education. Basic Life Support Certification is also required. Must be obtained within 6 months of hire.

Preferred: 2 years’ experience in healthcare or cardiopulmonary rehabilitation setting and ACLS certification. Board certification equivalent to the Clinical Exercise Physiologist ® CEP credential through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) or the Certified Cardiac Rehabilitation Professional (CCRP) certification through the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Association (AACVPR). Appropriate credentials must be obtained within one year of hire date if not possessed upon hire. Master’s Degree in Exercise Science.


ADDITIONAL SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS: Skilled in working with high risk individuals, working knowledge of regulatory requirements, clinical exercise testing, EKG interpretation, working knowledge of exercise equipment, energetic and enthusiastic, effective communication skills, prioritization, and teambuilding. Incumbent must demonstrate an ability to apply age-appropriate principles of communication relevant to adult and geriatric patients. Incumbent must demonstrate competence in the use of equipment and application of procedures before being allowed to perform

Schedule: Full time-Benefits, Day, 6am-3pm, M-Th, 6am-1pm F
