Minimum Experience/Education
The Postdoctoral appointee must have earned a Ph.D. degree within the past five years from an accredited university in one of the following fields: Electrical Engineering, Physics, and related areas
Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:
- Ph.D in Electrical Engineering, Physics or related areas awarded within the last five years.
- SRAM design, fabrication, and testing: Expertise in all areas is highly preferred
- Design, fabrication, and testing of photonic integrated:Experience in these fields will be considered a significant advantage.
Priority consideration will be given to candidates with the following training and experience:
- Semiconductor Memory Technologies: particularly with experience in SRAM design, fabrication, and testing.
- Electronic-Photonic Integrated Circuits: Experience in design, fabrication, and testing of photonic integrated circuits, and their integration with electronic integrated circuit.
Duties and Responsibilities
A Postdoctoral Fellow (""postdoc"") is a professional apprenticeship designed to provide recent Ph.D. recipients with an opportunity to develop further the research skills acquired in their doctoral programs or to learn new research techniques, in preparation for an academic or research career. In the process of further developing their own research skills, it is expected that Postdoctoral Fellows will also play a significant role in the performance of research at the University and augment the role of graduate faculty in providing research instruction to graduate students. A Postdoctoral Fellow works under the supervision of a regular faculty member, who serves as a mentor to the Fellow, and it is expected that the faculty mentor will impart the realities, and variety, of scientific careers, and will encourage experiences outside the laboratory to broaden postdocs’ aspirations. Within the confines of the particular research focus assigned by that faculty member, the Postdoctoral Fellow functions with a considerable degree of independence and has the freedom (and is expected) to publish the results of his or her research or scholarship during the period of appointment. Thus, the role of Postdoctoral Fellows is clearly differentiated from full-time technical employees.

Other Work/Responsibilities
We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to participate in this project in collaboration with a group of collaborators with complementary expertise. This project intends to develop a new type of SRAM technology, namely FET-LET hybrid SRAM, an electronic-photonic integrated circuit in a signal-functional-unit level.
The postdoctoral researcher will report to Dr. Yong Zhang and contribute to the project through original research, collaboration with team members, and mentoring of students. They will also play a key role in securing external funding by contributing to grant proposals.

While working closely with Dr. Zhang, the postdoctoral researcher will exercise a significant degree of independent judgment and original thinking in conducting research that contributes to new knowledge and enhances UNC Charlotte’s reputation in research. Research findings, if appropriate, will be published in peer reviewed journals in collaboration with Dr. Zhang and other collaborators.
The postdoctoral researcher will share responsibilities for student mentoring with Dr. Zhang and will participate in departmental seminars and other professional activities as assigned.
