Summer Bus Driver
Temporary Casual Part-Time
This position is open until filled.
Umpqua Community College is seeking reliable, student-focused individuals to join our team as Part-Time Bus Driver for our summer programs. In this role, you will safely transport middle and high school students to and from summer camps and classes held on the UCC campus. This is a temporary position running from June through July and requires split shifts, with student pick-up in the morning (before 9:00 a.m.) and drop-off in the afternoon (after 2:00–3:00 p.m.).
- Serve as a positive role model for students
- Safely transport students to and from designated locations and campus activities
- Supervise student boarding and unloading; provide assistance as needed
- Maintain appropriate behavior and order on the bus to minimize distractions
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections (e.g., brakes, lights, tires, emergency exits)
- Report mechanical issues promptly and ensure the bus remains clean and sanitary
- Comply with all traffic laws and institutional safety standards
- Communicate effectively with program staff regarding student behavior, delays, or concerns
- Demonstrate professionalism, leadership, and strong customer service skills
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of Oregon driving laws and safe driving practices
- Ability to interact effectively and professionally with students
- Demonstrated responsibility and ability to make sound, independent decisions
- Strong verbal communication skills
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Split shifts required: Student pick-up and drop-off
- Extended periods of sitting while operating a vehicle
- Occasional standing, bending, and assisting students
- In accordance with UCC policy and insurance requirements: must be at least 21 years of age with a minimum of 5 years of driving experience (excluding permit years)
- Clean driving record required
- Experience working with youth preferred
