The Allied Health Media, Simulation, and Laboratory Technician serves as the primary technical and operational support for the Allied Health Simulation and Skills Center, ensuring simulation labs, clinical skills laboratories, and instructional spaces are fully prepared for student learning.
 
This position coordinates simulation activities, manages simulation equipment and laboratory inventory, supports lab scheduling, troubleshoots simulation and audio-visual technology, and maintains a safe, organized, and operational learning environment. Working closely with faculty, the Simulation Coordinator, and Allied Health leadership, the Technician plays a key role in delivering high-quality healthcare education by supporting nursing and allied health simulation experiences, clinical skills training, accreditation readiness, and day-to-day laboratory operations.Simulation and Academic Operations:
  • Prepare, set up, and maintain simulation and skills lab environments to support daily instructional activities.
  • Provide simulation assistance, technical preparation, and real-time support for allied health academic programming in simulation labs.
  • Collaborate with faculty and simulation staff to ensure simulation objectives and scenarios are executed effectively.
  • Troubleshoot simulation equipment, audio-visual (AV) systems, and related technologies in a timely manner.
  • Maintain operational readiness of high-mid and low-fidelity manikins, and simulation technologies.
  • Participate in simulation training and workshops to maintain competency with evolving equipment and practices.

Allied Health Lab and Equipment Coordination:
  • Oversee maintenance, tracking, and lifecycle management of equipment across all Allied Health programs in HNSC.
  • Develop and manage lab schedules for all Allied Health Programs, ensuring alignment with academic and instructional needs.
  • Conduct routine inspections and annual assessments of lab and simulation equipment for functionality and safety.
  • Coordinate lab setup, breakdown, and readiness for all instructional activities.

Inventory, Procurement, and Compliance:
  • Maintain and manage inventory systems, including Operative IQ, for nursing and Allied Health programs.
  • Develop and maintain ordering lists, monitor supply levels, and coordinate procurement of equipment and materials.
  • Research vendors and pricing to ensure cost-effective purchasing within budget parameters.
  • Maintain accurate invoices and documentation for all supplies and equipment.
  • Coordinate Stericycle services, including organization, scheduling, and compliance with disposal requirements.

Student and Faculty Support:
  • Provide technical and operational support to students, faculty, and staff within simulation and lab environments.
  • Assist students with access to systems, records, and learning tools as needed.
  • Support onboarding/orientation activities for new students related to simulation and lab use.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe learning environment in all lab and simulation spaces.

Accreditation and Program Support:
  • Assist in preparation for accreditation, site visits, and regulatory reviews.
  • Support documentation, inventory tracking, and reporting needs related to program compliance.
  • Collaborate with program leadership on assessment activities related to simulation and lab operations.

Administrative and Technical Support:
  • Maintain schedules, calendars, and documentation for simulation and lab operations.
  • Support troubleshooting of general technical systems including printers, phones, AV, and networked equipment.
  • Conduct inventory audits and assist with special projects such as cost analysis and operational improvements.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and scheduling/inventory systems.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies and simulation equipment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with diverse student and staff populations.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a team environment.
  • Knowledge of healthcare terminology and clinical equipment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with applicable regulations (e.g., FERPA)
Required:
  • One (1) year of experience in simulation, healthcare education, or related technical environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency with computer systems, Microsoft Office applications, and basic technical troubleshooting.
Preferred:
  • Associate’s degree in healthcare, simulation technology, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience supporting nursing or Allied Health programs.
  • Experience with A/V systems.
  • Familiarity with simulation technologies, inventory systems (e.g., Operative IQ), and instructional platforms (e.g., LMS/CANVAS).
  • Certification in simulation technology.
