Become part of something greater by applying your experience, input, and leadership—as a clinician and healthcare expert. Job DescriptionUM Capital Region, a member of the University of Maryland Medical System is looking for an Advanced Practice Practitioner, Acute Care Surgery/Trauma to meet increasing clinical demand at UM Capital Region Medical located in its new state-of-the-art facility in Largo, MD.Under the direction of a supervising physician, the APP provides diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive health care services to patients, obtains medical histories, examines patients, orders and interprets tests, makes initial diagnoses, and orders treatments, administers therapeutic procedures such as suturing, chest tube placement, central/peripheral line placement, and wound care, instructs and counsels patients, and assists with surgical procedures.   The Acute Care Emergency Surgery APP covering trauma and general surgery is responsible for the comprehensive, acute care, and medical management of the patient from admission to transfer or discharge. They participate in the full scope of the perioperative spectrum as well, including critical care, med/surg care, perioperative care, consults, surgical first assisting, history and physicals, clinic, and any other duties in support of the trauma and acute care surgery practice.   Job specifics: •    Join a multifaceted team that covers Trauma and general surgery under ACES (Acute Care and Emergency Services) that, in collaboration with the attending on call, is responsible for the comprehensive care and medical management of the trauma and general surgery patient from arrival, admission, transfer, and discharge.Advanced Practice Practitioner (APP) will be trained to cover all aspects of the ACES team.Cover other subspecialties as needed.The APP will have the opportunity to cross cover other APP lead service lines.•    As a full-time position, the APP will be responsible for three 24-hour shifts per two-week pay period.Additional shifts as needed,•    The APP will perform routine and expanded job descriptions as listed in the provider's Delineation of Privileges on file with our Medical Staff Office and compliant with the Maryland Board of Physicians or Maryland Board of Nursing regulations.  •    In collaboration with the attending physician on call, the APP will:Demonstrate competence and skill in required tasks and procedures.Obtain medical histories, examines patients, rounds daily, orders and interprets tests, makes initial diagnoses, and orders treatments. Demonstrate knowledge of and competency in required the management of basic medical and post-op surgical problems, i.e., SOB, fever.Demonstrate competence and skill while performing in the operating room/emergency room.Provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive health care services to critically ill patients. Communicate effectively with attending physicians, other medical teams, team members, and patients and their families.Instruct and counsel patients and families. Maintain a list of in-house patients and makes rounds daily. Write progress notes with appropriate updates regarding results of studies, notations regarding procedures and/or surgery, and outline of therapeutic planAdminister therapeutic procedures such as suturing, chest tube placement, central and peripheral line placement, and wound care. First assist in the operating room.•    Maintain required continuing education requirementsCompletes at least 50 hours of Category I CME every two years. Complete 32 hours of trauma related CME.Performs according to Maryland Board of Physician or Board of Nursing standards and expanded job description procedural protocols.•    Facilitate excellence in quality assurance and the delivery of patient care as part of our High Reliability Organization.Provides optimal quality of patient care while following safety guidelines,Maintains a procedure complication rate less than the national average.Contributes to cohesive group relations; uses open communication to resolve problems in and between departments.Demonstrates commitment to professionalism and professional department and organizational core values.•    Participates in APP Council meetings, ACES team meetings, APP and ACES team educational opportunities, and other learning opportunities as they arise. •    Engages in leadership activities including but not limited to APP representation on committees, training and education of other APPs, or specific event or team. •    Comply with all assignments, schedules, policies, procedures, standards, rules and regulations, and other directives of the Employer, as may be amended from time to time, including without limitation the Hospital’s Compliance Plan.  Maintain compliance with the rules, regulations, and bylaws of the Medical Staff of the Hospital.  Qualifications•    Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree and graduation from an ARC-PA accredited Physician Assistant program are required, along with mandatory certification by the NCCPA and registration with the Maryland State Board of Medical Examiners, OR current certification to practice as an Acute Care Nurse PractitionerOne year of surgical, emergency, or critical care experience is preferred.Must participate in appropriate continuing medical education programs.Credentialing must be obtained from University of Maryland Capital Region Health’s Medical Staff Office Maintenance of BLS and ACLS certification is required.ATLS is required and can be obtained after your start date.Salary is commensurate with clinical experience.Additional InformationAs a UMMS provider, you can expect:Competitive SalaryMedical, dental, and vision insurancePaid malpractice insuranceGenerous paid time offCME hours and CME allowanceRetirement plan – 403-B with employer matchBe part of a rich tradition of Medicine while shaping the future of care delivery.We are not accepting inquiries or solicitations from 3rd party recruiters/search firms.All your information will be kept confidential according to EEO guidelines.Pay Range: $61.63 - $81.35Review the 2024-2025 UMMS Benefits Guide
