Position Title: Visitor Experience and Volunteer Manager
Position Type: Full Time Employee
Reports to: Executive Director
Supervises: Volunteers, Visitor Experience Associate and/or intern(s), and weekend MODs
Location of work: In person at the UMLAUF (605 Azie Morton Rd. Austin, TX 78704)
Schedule: Tuesday-Saturday, 40 hours per week
Compensation: $52,000 annually
Benefits: 15 days Paid Time Off effective after a 90-day probationary period, plus 1 additional day PTO for each year of service; 11 Paid Staff Holidays; 5 Paid Sick Days; Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance (employee coverage paid by employer); Teladoc Plus Mental Health, which allows employees to connect on the phone, Teladoc app, or on a video call with a physician who can diagnose, treat, and write a prescription 24/7/365. Description: The UMLAUF Sculpture Garden Museum was founded by volunteers and continues to rely on a large volunteer workforce to support daily open hours, special public programs, fundraisers, and garden and collection maintenance. The Visitor Experience Volunteer Manager is the leader of this team of public facing ambassadors. They also develop and maintain resources for enhanced guest experience, ensuring a welcoming and inclusive visit.

Responsibilities:
Volunteer Leadership
• Lead the full volunteer experience lifecycle including recruitment, onboarding, training, scheduling, engagement, and retention for up to 400 volunteers annually
• Coordinate corporate, non-profit, and school group volunteer opportunities
• Oversee volunteers who support daily operations, public programs, fundraisers, and garden maintenance
• Plan and run volunteer and staff appreciation events and team-building opportunities
• Mentor high school student interns through external partnerships
Visitor Experience & Front-of-House Strategy
• Supervise daily front-of-house operations ensuring the museum is open and well-staffed Tuesdays-Sundays and for programs outside of regular hours
• Oversee 4 part-time Managers on Duty (weekends only) and 1 Visitor Experience Specialist
• Establish and maintain front-of-house standards, training materials, and customer service expectations
• Serve as on-call contact for front-of-house operations as needed
• Support public programs and special events, including occasional nights and weekends
• Seek out partnerships and/or resources that enhance visitor experience or contribute to a more accessible museum visit o Maintain existing partnerships/resources (e.g., Bloomberg Connects, KultureCity certification, etc.)
• Collaborate with Marketing and Curatorial to create print materials for visitor education or promotion
• Track and analyze visitor and volunteer engagement and data (e.g., volunteer participation, attendance, demographics, revenue)
• Manage all aspects of the gift shop including vendor partnerships, product design, inventory, and sales
• Create and manage the Visitor Services departmental budget
• Use and maintain Square point of sale system (e.g., generate sales reports, update the item library, update software/hardware as necessary, etc.)
• Respond to general museum inquiries by phone or direct to the appropriate department
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in a related field preferred
• Experience working for a non-profit preferred
• Demonstrated experience managing staff and/or volunteer teams
• Ability to balance operational needs with care for staff, volunteers, and visitors
• Experience developing and maintaining policies and procedures
• Comfort working with data, reporting insights, and using CRMs
• Excellent communication, organization, and relationship-building skills
• Ability to work collaboratively across departments and levels of leadership
• Flexibility to support occasional evenings, weekends, and on-call needs
• Experience working with point-of-sale software and hardware
