General Summary:
Under the direction of the Manager – Patient Access, the Supervisor – Patient Access and Central Scheduling assists with planning and coordinating pre-service oversight and day-to-day operations for the department. Operations included registration, central scheduling, authorization validation, estimates and pre-service collections. This position will serve as a liaison between the department, physician offices, hospital departments, and offsite clinics.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Meets one of the following requirements:
- Associate’s degree in healthcare, business, human resources, information technology, or related field and minimum of three (3) years’ experience in revenue cycle;
- High school diploma or GED and a minimum five (5) years’ experience in revenue cycle areas with previous supervisory may be substituted in lieu of degree.
- Bachelor’s degree in healthcare, business, human resources, information technology, or related field preferred.
- Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) and/or Certified Healthcare Access Management (CHAM) must be obtained within one year of hire.
- Able to travel to any off-site location as needed.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to supervise multiple projects.
- Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Works in conjunction with the Manager to recruit, hire, counsel and conduct performance conversations and evaluations according to hospitalpolicies and procedures. Conducts and/or participates in departmental ormultidisciplinary meetings.
- Approves staff time and attendance in API Symplr, documents employee absenteeism and tardiness occurrencesaccording to the hospital policy and arranges for coverage when
- Evaluates performance, mentors and coaches direct reports to ensure staff development and the implementation of goals, KPI’s and objectives are achieved.
- Monitors departmental productivity and effectiveness and produces meaningful scorecards. Maintains appropriate staffing levels (productivity) and oversees daily operations and schedules.
- Works in conjunction with the Manager to identify cost effective strategies and maintain fiscal accountability by managing staffing allocations and meeting budget parameters.
- Works with Manager to develop and implement employee education and training programs to enhance employee performance and promote development to achieve departmental goals.
- Provides operational guidance and direction to staff to ensure service integration,
effective coordination of departmental work activities and quality job
- Assumes day-to-day accountability for the high-quality delivery of patient access services through consistent application of policies, procedures, protocols and standards. Maintains a working knowledge of Federal, State and Local regulations that impact areas of responsibility.
- Represents Manager in problem resolution, as needed.
- Performs all responsibilities of direct reports on the unit when needed.
- Demonstrates system thinking vs silo thinking.
- Performs other duties as assigned. These may include but are not limited to: Maintaining a current knowledge base of department processes, protocols and procedures, pursuing self-directed learning and continuing education opportunities, and participating on committees, task forces, and work groups as determined by management.
