Overtime, shift-differential and on-call pay (non-exempt positions only). Under general supervision, performs painting work at the journey level. Prepares surfaces for painting, plasters and/or paints building interiors, exteriors, road and parking surfaces. Responsibilities: •Applies coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel or lacquer to decorate and protect interior or exterior surfaces. •Prepares surfaces for painting by scraping, burning, sandpapering or dissolving previous paint coatings. Fills nail holes, cracks, and joints with caulk or putty. Tapes, spackles, and finishes dry wall. •Removes fixtures, spreads drop cloths and covers surfaces to protect during painting. •Selects, mixes, and matches paints. •Stains and finishes furniture, paints and touches up signs and may hang wall coverings. •Prepares estimates of time, labor and materials. Prepares reports reflecting daily operations and project status. •Operates and maintains tools and equipment of the painting trade. May erect and work from scaffolding and ladders. Cleans work area upon completion of project. •Provides guidance and training in painting work to other maintenance personnel. May have lead responsibility for special projects. •Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications: •Four years progressively responsible experience in the painting trade. •A non-commercial Class C or equivalent driver's license valid in the State of Maryland may be required. •Note: The selected candidate may be required to be trained to work with asbestos. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: •Comprehensive knowledge of and skill in the methods and techniques used in the painting trade. •Thorough knowledge of and skill in basic mathematics including area, volume, weights, and the practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions: of OSHA regulations related to the painting trade. •Skill in the use and maintenance of the tools and equipment of the painting trade. •Ability to schedule and lay out work and to perceive the normal color spectrum. •Ability to prepare summaries and reports. •Ability to communicate effectively and follow oral and written directions. •Ability to work in, on, around, over and under fixed equipment and machinery; to work from ladders, rigging, and scaffolding. •Ability to manipulate heavy equipment, tools, and supplies and/or exert force up to 70 lbs.; to concurrently manipulate multiple controls on equipment and machinery. •Ability to work in hazardous or irritating environments, confined spaces, and adverse weather or temperature conditions. Physical Demands: •May be required to perform physical work requiring bending, stooping, reaching, carrying, and frequent heavy lifting. •May be required to work in adverse weather conditions. •May be required to wear and work in personal protective equipment. •May be required to operate a variety of equipment to include office equipment.
