What are the responsibilities and job description for the Technology Assistant position at UMC of Chagrin Falls?
The United Methodist Church of Chagrin Falls is looking for a part-time Technology Assistant to oversee the church's technology and manage the video streaming during Sunday morning worship services.
Purpose of Position: To oversee and support the usage of technology throughout the church. This technology includes workstations and laptops, internal and external networks, Microsoft 365 components including email, One-drive and SharePoint. The Assistant is also responsible for producing and presenting weekly slides including live-streaming, camera controls, slide and video projection. It also includes a working knowledge of the sound system.
Duties and Responsibilities:
A. Be available throughout the week to support and troubleshoot the church’s technology.
B. Be responsible for troubleshooting hardware and software failures/problems within the church’s computing network.
C. Oversee the routine maintenance of software products including performing upgrades.
D. Be able to report and communicate with vendors regarding hardware and software problems and be able to work with vendors to reach problem resolutions.
E. Create the worship slideshow before Sunday morning, exclusive of sermon slides and moments for joy. Timing is flexible, most elements for worship are completed by Thursday morning, allowing slideshow to be created anytime Thursday through Saturday. The Slideshow can be created at the church on the sanctuary computer or remotely over the Internet.
F. Manage the video streaming cameras and environment during the Sunday morning church service.
G. Work with church volunteers.
- Recruit and train volunteers to help with Sunday morning technology and to substitute on those occasions when the Technology Assistant is unable to be present.
- Develop and manage a monthly schedule of volunteers that is due to the church office before the end of the previous month.
- If unable to fulfill Sunday morning responsibilities for any reason, it is the responsibility of the specialist to secure a replacement.
H. Attend occasional staff meetings as often as possible (mostly zoom meetings).
I. Maintain a weekly hours-worked time sheet and submit it to the church treasurer twice a month.
Skills Required:
- Must be comfortable with computer technology and 2-3 years of experience with networking, laptops and workstations running Microsoft Windows, Microsoft 365 Administration, troubleshooting skills and proficiency with audio/visual equipment.
- Must be knowledgeable in or willing to learn Restream.IO, ProPresenter, YouTube and Gmail.
- Must be comfortable communicating with and working with others, both staff and volunteers.
Time Requirements:
This is a 12-15 hour a week job except for the weeks when there is an additional holiday worship service (Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday). Regarding weekly presentations, the Technology Assistant may be absent up to 8 Sundays a year if volunteers are in place and fully trained to cover the job.
Compensation: $25/hour, $300-$400 a week.
Supervisor: Pastor is the day-to-day supervisor with the Staff Parish Relations Committee having the general supervisory responsibility for all staff. The position also requires routing reporting of events and activities to the Technology Committee.
