What are the responsibilities and job description for the Member of Technical Staff position at UMATR?
About the Company
We are building AI-powered software to modernise complex technical and operational workflows across large, traditionally underserved industries. Our team combines deep technical expertise with hands-on collaboration alongside domain professionals to develop practical tools that improve productivity, decision-making, and knowledge management in real-world environments. We believe there is a significant opportunity to apply modern machine learning systems to workflows that have historically relied on fragmented software, manual processes, and institutional knowledge.
Why This Role Matters
We are looking for early engineering hires to work closely with the founding team on building the first generation of our platform and internal tooling. This role offers broad ownership across product development, systems architecture, user discovery, and deployment. You’ll help shape both the technical direction of the company and the way modern AI systems are integrated into complex operational environments. The work involves close interaction with end users, rapid iteration cycles, and solving ambiguous problems in domains where software adoption has historically lagged behind.
What You’ll Do
- Work directly with users and operators to understand workflows, pain points, and opportunities for automation
- Design, build, and deploy production systems end-to-end
- Collaborate with leadership on technical architecture, engineering culture, and product direction
- Develop core platform capabilities across data systems, workflow infrastructure, automation tooling, and internal knowledge management systems
- Build internal tools and integrations across a variety of third-party systems and environments
- Iterate quickly based on real-world feedback and operational constraints
What We Look For
- Strong curiosity and systems thinking
- Comfortable operating in ambiguous environments with incomplete information
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to translate noisy user feedback into practical product decisions
- High ownership mindset and willingness to work across the stack
- Has experience working with LLMs, Agent Frameworks or RAG
- Willingness to travel occasionally for user research and fieldwork
- Pragmatic approach to problem-solving with a bias toward shipping
Salary : $200,000 - $300,000
