General Summary of Position

The Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Lowell invites applications for a Visiting Professorship in Biomedical Engineering. The successful candidate will contribute to the department's teaching mission by delivering high-quality undergraduate and/or graduate instruction in biomedical engineering and related fields, mentoring students, and fostering an inclusive, hands-on learning environment.

This visiting appointment is intended for an educator, scholar, or practitioner who can bring current disciplinary knowledge, strong teaching practice, and meaningful engagement with students and colleagues in a public research university setting. This is a one-year appointment with an anticipated teaching load of 4 - 4. The appointment is scheduled to begin in the Fall Semester 2026.

  • Develop, update, and deliver course materials for assigned biomedical engineering courses, including syllabi, lectures, laboratory or project activities, assignments, examinations, rubrics, and learning resources.
  • Construct and maintain course sites in the university's learning management system and provide clear, timely communication to students.
  • Teach assigned undergraduate and/or graduate courses in person, online, or in a hybrid format as determined by departmental needs.
  • Provide timely grading, feedback, office hours, and academic support that promote student success.
  • Mentor students on academic, professional, design, research, or career-connected learning activities as appropriate to the appointment.
  • Collaborate with Biomedical Engineering faculty and staff on course coordination, curriculum alignment, assessment, and continuous improvement.
  • Participate in selected departmental meetings, events, accreditation-related activities, or service assignments as appropriate for a visiting faculty appointment.

Minimum Qualifications (Required)

Earned a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering or a closely related engineering, life sciences, or quantitative field by the start date. A master's degree with substantial specialized professional expertise may be considered if consistent with university policy and departmental needs.

Demonstrated ability to teach biomedical engineering or closely related courses at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.

Subject-matter expertise in one or more biomedical engineering areas relevant to the department's curriculum, such as bioinstrumentation, bioinstrumentation lab, quantitative physiology, quantitative physiology lab, applications programming, biomaterials, cell and tissue engineering, or related fields.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior college-level teaching experience as instructor of record, co-instructor, lecturer, adjunct instructor, teaching professor, visiting faculty member, or teaching assistant with substantial instructional responsibility.

This position is full-time, benefited and non-unit. Anticipated salary range based on qualifications of $85,000 - $100,000.
