Core Responsibilities
- Independently perform safe setups/operations; strictly follow safe work practices and lock out/tagout procedures.
- Maintain a world-class work area using 5S and lean methods.
- Tackle varied assignments, sometimes with minimal instruction.
- Translate sketches, verbal guidance, and prints into finished parts/tooling that meet specification.
- Select materials, tooling, and fixturing to prepare for fabrication.
- Machine parts using CNC mills/lathes and manual mills/lathes; utilize drill presses, sanders, grinders, and related support tools.
- Set, adjust, and run basic and advanced machine tools to complete work precisely.
- Compute dimensions/tolerances using math and precision instruments (micrometers, depth mics, ID/OD gauges, etc.).
- Read/interpret blueprints to ensure compliance.
- Verify machine performance and address issues promptly.
- Partner with engineering and direct labor on part/tooling applications and improvements.
- Recommend safer, more efficient, and cost-effective alternatives when appropriate.
- Other duties as assigned.
- AAS in an Engineering field preferred; not required.
- 1–3 years machining experience required; formal schooling preferred. Job shop and CNC experience are pluses.
- Demonstrated initiative, reliability, and strong work ethic.
- Hands-on team player comfortable spending most time on the shop floor.
- Effective reading, writing, and communication skills; strong mathematics capability.
- Proficient in MS Office and necessary computer skills.
- Skilled at reading sketches/blueprints and holding tight tolerances.
- Experienced with precision metrology (micrometers, depth mics, ID/OD gauges, etc.).
- Understands equipment/tooling technologies and general speeds/feeds.
- Diagnoses operating issues and determines corrective actions.
- Monitors operations using gauges, dials, and indicators to ensure proper function.
- Orders raw materials within the ERP system.
- Knowledge of lock out/tag out requirements.
- Close vision for inspection and reading measuring devices.
- Lift/pull/push up to 50 lbs during setup/teardown.
- Stand 8–10 hours per shift.
- Frequent bending and reaching during setups and measurement checks.
