UCT is looking for a talented Production Lead – (CNC) to join our Austin, TX Products organization.

The Production Lead serves as a working lead within the CNC machining and welding area, supporting daily production execution and acting as a bridge between operators, supervisors, and engineering. This role helps coordinate work assignments, monitors quality and throughput, supports troubleshooting of manufacturing issues, and ensures all work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with procedures and drawings.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Lead and support daily production activities within the CNC machining and weld shop, including work assignment, job sequencing, and flow management.
  • Serve as a technical and operational resource for CNC operators and welders during production.
  • Ensure adherence to safety policies, PPE requirements, and hazardous material handling procedures.
  • Monitor production output to ensure quality, schedule, and efficiency targets are met.
  • Verify that work is performed according to engineering drawings, work instructions, and quality requirements.
  • Assist Production Supervisor with identifying capacity constraints, manpower needs, and priority changes.
  • Support troubleshooting of machining, welding, fixturing, or process issues in partnership with Engineering.
  • Review in‑process and completed work for conformance; escalate quality issues as needed.
  • Support and help deliver on‑the‑job training for operators and technicians.
  • Participate in daily production meetings, shift handoffs, and safety discussions.
  • Document production, safety, quality, and equipment issues and escalate to the Production Supervisor.
  • Track and support key production metrics (output, scrap, rework, downtime).
  • Identify and recommend continuous improvement opportunities related to safety, quality, workflow, and efficiency (Lean, Kaizen, 5S).
  • Coordinate effectively with Engineering, Quality, Materials, Planning, and Maintenance teams.
  • Perform hands‑on work as needed to support production demands.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Experience in manufacturing, fabrication, welding, or CNC machining environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead or guide operators/technicians in a production setting.
  • Strong understanding of shop safety, quality control, and standard work.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and work instructions.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Comfortable working in a fast‑paced production environment.
  • Basic computer literacy (production systems, documentation, Microsoft tools).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading teams in CNC machining or weld/fabrication shops.
  • Hands‑on knowledge of machining processes, welding methods, fixtures, and tooling.
  • Familiarity with Lean manufacturing, Kaizen, or continuous improvement methods.
  • Experience assisting with production metrics, KPIs, or daily management systems.
  • Background supporting NPI, first‑article builds, or engineering changes.

Education, Certifications, And Requirements

Minimum

  • High school diploma or GED.

Preferred

  • Associate degree or technical coursework in Manufacturing, Machining, Welding, or Industrial Technology.
  • CNC machining or welding certifications/training.
  • Lean, Six Sigma, or safety training.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Work performed in an industrial manufacturing and fabrication environment.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods; bend, reach, lift, push, and pull as required.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs with or without accommodation.
  • Required use of PPE, including safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and other equipment as applicable.
  • Exposure to manufacturing hazards, machinery, noise, welding, and machining operations.

The Technician Lead provides hands‑on technical expertise and daily leadership for a team of technicians supporting semiconductor manufacturing equipment, processes, facilities, or laboratory operations. This role coordinates work assignments, leads troubleshooting and maintenance activities, and ensures compliance with safety, quality, and cleanroom standards. The Technician Lead supports engineering, drives operational discipline, mentors junior technicians, and contributes to continuous improvement in tool uptime, yield, throughput, and overall fab performance.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Lead daily work activities for technicians, including task assignment, prioritization, and shift coordination.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, and recovery actions on semiconductor tools, systems, or equipment.
  • Support engineering with data collection, experiments, qualifications, and root cause investigations.
  • Ensure adherence to standard work, safety procedures, ESD protocols, and cleanroom requirements.
  • Review technician work quality, documentation, and compliance with maintenance procedures and specifications.
  • Train and mentor Technicians I–III on technical skills, procedures, safety, and best practices.
  • Support equipment startups, shutdowns, PM execution, calibrations, retrofits, and upgrades.
  • Identify recurring equipment or process issues; collaborate with Engineering to implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Maintain accurate shift logs, CMMS/MES entries, parts usage records, and tool status updates.
  • Provide escalation support for complex issues impacting uptime, yield, or production flow.
  • Assist in planning and coordinating maintenance windows, parts inventory, and replacement needs.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability, uptime, cycle time, and safety.
  • Coordinate effectively with Engineering, Production, Facilities, Quality, and vendor/OEM teams.

  • Minimum Qualifications
    • Experience as a technician in semiconductor manufacturing, advanced manufacturing, facilities, equipment, or process support.
    • Strong troubleshooting and maintenance skills for complex equipment or systems.
    • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, procedures, and documentation.
    • Strong communication, teamwork, and task‑coordination skills.
    • Proficient with cleanroom practices, ESD protocols, and safety procedures.
    • Demonstrated leadership or mentoring capability.
  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Experience supporting specific semiconductor modules (lithography, etch, deposition, CMP, implant, metrology, etc.).
    • Familiarity with SPC, data analysis, equipment health metrics, and root cause methods (5 Whys, Fishbone, etc.).
    • Experience with CMMS, MES, maintenance documentation, and escalation workflows.
    • Demonstrated success improving tool uptime, reducing scrap, or enhancing technician performance.
    • Experience coordinating cross‑shift communication or leading shift handoff routines.
