Summer 2027 Civil Engineer Intern - Surface Transportation

The Opportunity

Ulteig is seeking a talented and motivated Civil Engineer Intern to join our Civil team for the 2027 summer. The selected candidate could support both construction with the opportunity to some design and office work. We are looking for candidates that are eager to expand their knowledge base and grow their career. Prospective candidates are expected to be committed to client satisfaction, and adhere strictly to client-driven standards, schedules, budgets, and passionate about working with our clients and team! 

What You'll Do

• Perform construction observation duties on assigned projects
• Coordinate on-site materials testing
• Maintain records, construction quantities, checklists, daily reports, and documentation for construction administration projects in accordance with municipality requirements
• Communicate progress and questions from the field with senior design staff
• Design, develop, implement, and analyze engineering systems
• plan preparation that includes but is not limited to grading plans, erosion control plans, traffic control plans, pavement marking, street lighting, underground utility design, and pavement design
• Develop plans and specifications that comply with preexisting state and municipality requirements
• Demonstrate a wide degree of out-of-the-box thinking, creativity, and design ownership
• Perform work within both office and field settings

What We Expect from You

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in civil or construction engineering
• Prior engineering internship experience preferred
• Working Knowledge of Autodesk Civil 3D or Bentley Open Roads Designer preferred
• Strong communication, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills
• Must be able to work full-time during Summer 2027
• Potential to continue internship through the school year based on performance and business needs
• Must have the ability to work in the Detroit Lakes, MN area
• Must have permanent authorization to work in the U.S.

Additional Opportunity Details:
Target Base Compensation for this role is $25-$27/hr.
* Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your job specific skills, education, training, job location, number of years of experience related to this role and comparison to other employees already in this role
