THE IMPACT YOU CAN HAVE
The Retail Process Improvement Engineer is responsible for identifying, managing, and leading cross-functional projects to improve the fluctuating needs of a growing organization through process improvement initiatives. This highly cross-functional role contributes to Ulta Beauty’s success by establishing processes and procedures to maximize efficiency and effectiveness by optimizing the use of people, processes, and performance to achieve service excellence. This position is accountable for the labor standards lifecycle by creating, maintaining, and improving engineered labor standards through the lens of process improvement, focusing on retail stores, as well as supply chain and enterprise initiatives.
This position requires a passion for process excellence, the aptitude to deliver quantifiable business results, and the ability to partner cross functionally and influence across all levels of the organization.
YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH THESE GOALS BY:
The Retail Process Improvement Engineer is a champion of Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values, and should demonstrate them skillfully and consistently through the following (as well as all other projects/duties as assigned):
- Manage engineered labor standards and calculate workload demand for selling and operational activities.
- Drive labor optimization and specialization with improved operational tools and processes for store, DC, and corporate audiences, focusing on efficient data integration, simplified processes, and execution.
- Provide thought partnership and guidance as the business product owner of the labor standards repository and labor model management software platform, including integration with the workforce management product suite as well as implementing enhanced labor modeling capabilities.
- Evaluate organizational capabilities, processes, tools, and technology to drive innovation and continuous improvement throughout the value chain.
- Influence accountability to plan, execute, and achieve objectives to implement process improvements and change management initiatives that align with Company strategies for an optimal guest experience, sustained growth, and enhanced profit.
- Analyze and recommend methods for improving associate efficiency and reducing/eliminating non-value-added activities, including the restructuring of primary job duties, reorganizing workflows, and job setup.
- Perform root cause analysis to identify gaps; create a remediation plan to drive improvements.
- Lead training and testing workstreams for the implementation of new systems and processes.
- Synthesize and deliver transparent communication to business leadership team, cross-functional workstream, and executive stakeholders.
- Adjust and revitalize standards and documentation as needed to reflect changes in policy or procedure.
THE ESSENTIALS OF SUCCESS
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, or related field of study.
- Minimum 5 years of work-related experience in business operations, process improvement, and/or industrial engineering, preferably with a high-growth retailer.
- Professional certification in process improvement and/or project management is desirable.
- Demonstrated experience utilizing business process improvement methodologies such as Lean, Kaizen, or Six Sigma is preferred.
- Domain expertise managing engineered labor standards and calculating labor demand.
- Demonstrated project management planning and execution experience, coupled with a proven record of accomplishment of leading projects to obtain tangible business results.
- Experience with typical retail operations, including business process optimization, inventory management, and omnichannel commerce.
- Proven ability to scrutinize data, identify and interpret trends, and develop and execute appropriate action plans based on discoveries.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with aptitude to articulate intricate issues and translating technical terminology to a non-technical audience, including leadership.
- Aptitude to positively influence colleagues, peers, and cross-functional teams with diverse goals and responsibilities as well as competing priorities.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office product suite, including Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, SharePoint, Visio, and Word.
- Ability to perform and remain organized in a fast-paced, deadline-drive environment.
PREFERRED OR SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to work a flexible, full-time schedule to include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to travel, including overnight stays, as needed (up to 10%)

- Normal office demands.
- Visit stores to enhance understanding of the associate and guest experience and to collaborate with field leaders.
- Ability to walk and stand for extended periods during observations.

The pay range for this position is $77,600.00 - $103,000.00 / Year with the opportunity for eligible associates to earn additional compensation pursuant to the Company’s bonus plan. Exact pay will be based on factors including, but not limited to relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, level, shift, geographic location, and business and organizational needs. Full-time positions are eligible for paid time off, health, dental, vision, life and disability benefits. Part-time positions are eligible for dental, vision, life, and disability benefits.
