What are the responsibilities and job description for the Public Humanities Fellow position at uis?
The Public Humanities Fellow will be co-hosted by the Center for Lincoln Studies and the History Department for the 2025-26 academic year.
Responsibilities will include:
- Participate in and support research related to an ongoing major scholarly and public-facing project, “Legacy of Resilience: Black Springfield, 1900-1910.” This collaborative project between the Center for Lincoln Studies and the History Department, underway since September 2024, consists of the collation and interpretation of demographic and biographical information for all African Americans listed as living in Springfield, in the US Census, city directories, and other sources in the years immediately before and after the 1908 Springfield Race Riot.
- Serve as a consultant on the project, continue research on project elements, and participate in regular project meetings with UIS scholars, student researchers, and community members.
- Co-author a draft article with Dr. Friefeld and Dr. Hunter, to be submitted to a peer-reviewed journal, about the project's initial findings.
- Provide at least two public presentations about the project's progress and/or findings, or other related work.
- Depending upon interest and availability, may work with the UIS Institute for Race, Gender, Sexuality and Social Justice in possible forms of consultation, presentations, or other engagements with students and faculty connected with the Institute.
