Qualifications And Job Duties
- High school graduate or equivalent, at least 21 years of age;
- Possess a valid or obtain CDL License class A or B, with passenger and school bus endorsements and air brakes;
- Possess a current or obtain a DOT physical, with the ability to pass Bus Driver Physical Assessment; willing to drive a bus route when necessary;
- At least 2 years’ experience as a mechanic;
- ASE Certified, preferred;
- Must have current State Inspection Certificate, or willing to obtain;
- Works closely with the bus drivers to solve any mechanical problem with their assigned bus;
- Maintains records and logs on vehicles and equipment, prepares work orders, and maintains state inspection records;
- Must be able to mount and dismount bus tires;
- Conduct bi-annual D.O.T. inspection of buses;
- Inspects and coordinate recall notices, corrections on buses and other District vehicles;
- Able to perform diagnostic and routine maintenance on gasoline, propane, and diesel fuel systems;
- Able to repair/maintain gasoline, propane, and diesel engines, transmissions, differentials, air and hydraulic brake systems;
- Repair and/or replace vehicle electrical components;
- Able to perform routine maintenance on all vehicle braking, radiator, water pump, heat/cool systems, etc.;
- Essential Tasks, based on department maintenance schedule;
- Perform brake check and adjustment;
- Perform lube and tire inspections, brake adjustment;
- Perform full service including brake adjustment;
- Perform test drives to evaluate the proper performance of school buses;
- Must attend three-day mechanic in-service each year, and attend other training as needed;
- Assist in preparing specifications and make recommendations on bus and vehicle purchases;
- Be self-motivated;
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- A minimum of three letters of recommendation, including at least one from a direct supervisor (does not have to be a current supervisor), which address your skills at working effectively with students, parents, staff and community members;
