Job Title: Medical Assistant Certified Duchesne Clinic
Job Summary:
The Clinical Assistant (CMA/LPN) is a highly skilled, certified/licensed professional responsible for managing patient flow, performing direct patient care interventions, and ensuring comprehensive clinical operations in an ambulatory setting. This role leverages advanced clinical expertise to support patient management plans and optimize provider efficiency while maintaining the highest standards of safety and regulatory compliance.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Executes complex and specialized clinical tasks under provider supervision, including sterile procedures, comprehensive wound care, and suture/staple removal.
- Administers medications safely and accurately, including all routes of injection (intramuscular, subcutaneous), vaccinations, and oral medications, while monitoring and documenting patient response.
- Independently performs diagnostic testing, such as phlebotomy (venipuncture), arterial blood gas collection (if trained/licensed), and EKG/ECG testing.
- Collects, labels, and prepares sensitive laboratory specimens (e.g., blood, cultures) following strict biohazard protocols.
- Conducts comprehensive patient assessments and clinical intake, accurately reconciling patient medications, allergies, and complex medical history.
- Provides in-depth patient and family education regarding complex treatment plans, pre- and post-operative instructions, chronic disease management, and medication adherence.
- Manages clinical communications and prescription protocols, processing complex refill authorizations and coordinating prior authorizations with pharmacies and insurance companies.
- Coordinates external referrals, diagnostic testing, and hospital follow-up appointments, actively closing the loop on care continuity.
- Maintains an environment of clinical readiness, ensuring sterilization and calibration of specialized medical equipment.
- Accurately documents all procedures and interventions in the Electronic Health Record (EHR), ensuring data integrity for compliance, billing, and quality reporting.

Regulatory Requirements:
- Clinical Proficiency and Critical Thinking: Proven ability to apply specialized clinical knowledge to complex patient situations, recognize critical changes in patient status, and initiate appropriate interventions within the scope of practice.
- Advanced Medical Literacy: Comprehensive understanding of pharmacology, disease processes, and treatment protocols relevant to the ambulatory setting.
- Technology & Documentation Mastery: High-level proficiency in leveraging the EHR for care management, e-prescribing, quality metrics reporting, and efficient clinical documentation.
- Communication and Patient Advocacy: Exceptional ability to communicate complex medical information clearly to diverse patient populations and serve as an effective patient advocate.
- Successful completion of a Medical Assistant Program (certification must be provided upon hire).
- Current national MA Certification from one of the following national MA Certifications or registrations: Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) of AMT, National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) of the AAMA
- Or current LPN license to practice nursing in the State of Utah
