Job Summary
The Medical-Surgical Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides essential direct patient care and support under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). The CNA assists patients with daily living activities, promotes comfort and safety, and supports efficient unit operations in a fast-paced medical-surgical environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, toileting, feeding, and grooming
- Obtain and document vital signs, height, weight, and intake and output as directed
- Assist with patient mobility, ambulation, repositioning, and transfers using proper body mechanics
- Observe and report changes in patient condition to the nursing staff promptly
- Provide post-operative care support, including incentive spirometry reminders and mobility assistance
- Assist with specimen collection and transport
- Maintain patient rooms by stocking supplies and ensuring cleanliness and safety
- Respond to call lights and patient requests in a timely and compassionate manner
- Support infection prevention, safety protocols, and patient privacy standards (HIPAA)
- Assist nursing staff with admissions, transfers, and discharges
- Document care provided accurately in the electronic health record (EHR)

Regulatory Requirements
- Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred or required by facility
