Bowhead seeks a Systems Engineer to support the NAVAIR Crew Served Weapons In-Service Engineering activity in Crane, IN. The Systems Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the safety, reliability, and maintainability of machine guns up to .50 caliber and aircraft gun mounts for Navy and Marine Corps helicopters.

The Systems Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the safety, reliability, and maintainability of machine guns up to .50 caliber and aircraft gun mounts for Navy and Marine Corps helicopters.
Responsibilities
Essential duties include:
- Conduct Failure Mode Effect and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) on guns and mounts.
- Conduct root cause analysis on failures and determine corrective actions.
- Review developmental designs for reliability and maintainability concerns.
- Develop test plans/reports and conduct qualification testing of new systems, guns, or upgrades.
- Review maintenance and operating procedures to ensure completeness.
- Establish inspection procedures in conformance with Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) guidelines.
- Develop, review, and/or implement approved Engineering Change Proposals.
- Collaborate with engineering design teams to develop system upgrades.
- Review technical drawings and assign quality assurance provisions.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Static and dynamic material failure analysis, including the ability to interpret Finite Element Analysis data and translate into inspection criterion.
- Corrosion theory and prevention techniques, including selection of surface finishes and treatments.
- Fastener selection and torque calculation to develop optimal pre-loading.
- Bacherlor's degree with two (2) to five (5) years of experience.
- Familiarity with NAVAIR processes, including the flight clearance process.
- Ability to pass the Arms, Ammunition, and Explosives (AA&E) screening.
- Ability to obtain an explosive handling certification.
- Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts
- Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
- Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically
