Position Summary
The Utilities Engineer position provides engineering-related support, recommendations, and services to the Utilities Department in the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Administrative Services regarding energy products, power generation, production, consumption, and efficiencies for the entire campus, including steam, power, high-temperature hot water, and chilled water to ensure energy and cost efficiencies are being met.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provides engineering analyses and evaluations to identify and implement performance and efficiency modifications to the operation of plant systems (steam, power, high-temperature hot, and chilled water).
- Provides project management and oversight of energy projects and initiatives. Coordinates with plant operating engineers, contractors and others on capital and maintenance projects through completion.
- Reviews and analyzes the campus’ demand curve for all commodities (steam, high-temperature hot water chilled water and power) and makes recommendations regarding improved efficiency, maintenance, and operating cost savings. Tracks and validates utility usage metering data.
- Identifies, analyzes, and evaluates improvement and sustainability opportunities, along with the costs and the feasibility of related projects. Develops action plans to capitalize on projects and determines whether grants are available to subsidize these activities.
- Performs related utilities engineering tasks associated with engineering projects, including reviewing of designs for compliance with industry standards, codes, specifications, and meet prudent engineering practices.
- Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
