Position Summary
The Extra Help Program Coordinator (Digital Accessibility Testing and Training Specialist) supports UIC's efforts to ensure that university websites, applications, documents, and digital resources are accessible to all users. This role combines hands-on assistive technology testing expertise with digital accessibility training delivery to help build campus-wide capacity for inclusive digital environment.
Duties & Responsibilities
Accessibility Testing and Evaluation
• Conduct accessibility evaluations of websites, applications, documents, and other digital materials using automated tools and manual testing techniques.
• Identify accessibility barriers, document findings, and provide clear remediation guidance aligned with WCAG and applicable standards.
• Perform educational accessibility reviews and share results with campus stakeholders to support awareness, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Assist in developing standardized evaluation methods and reporting practices used across campus.
Accessibility Training and Education
• Develop and deliver customized accessibility training for UIC web and application project teams based on their tools, technologies, and active workflows.
• Design and present campus-wide workshops on accessibility fundamentals, inclusive design, and user experience best practices.
• Create hands-on training sessions focused on accessibility self-testing techniques, enabling teams to evaluate and improve their own digital content.
• Develop reusable training resources and modules to support departments involved in technology procurement and RFP development.
Consultation and Program Support
• Provide accessibility consultation to campus partners on project planning, testing strategies, policy alignment, and compliance expectations.
• Create templates and tools for standardized accessibility progress reporting across campus units.
Community Engagement and Advocacy
• Develop structured learning pathways, achievement milestones, and digital badging programs to recognize participation and professional development.
• Support cross-functional projects that strengthen the university’s accessibility infrastructure and training ecosystem.
Other Duties as Assigned
• Contribute to departmental planning, process improvement, and continuous service enhancement.
• Perform additional duties as needed.
• Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
