Job Summary:
The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) is seeking to recruit a child and adolescent psychiatrist to serve as Director of the Comprehensive Assessment and Response Tracking System (CARTS) Program that serves youth in the care of the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS). The CARTS Program includes three arms. First, the Comprehensive Assessment and Treatment Unit (CATU) is a 9-bed acute psychiatric unit housed at the University of Illinois Medical Center in Chicago. The CATU treats youth referred by DCFS care who range between the ages of 11 and 17 years who have been identified as being the most at-risk. Second, in addition to directing and serving as an attending child and adolescent psychiatrist on CATU, the Director will lead the Response Training System (RTS), which functions as the consultation arm of the CARTS program and supports community and residential treatment programs that care for DCFS youth. The third arm is the Therapeutic Residential Program Monitoring Initiative (TRPMI). The TRPMI provides technical assistance and consultation to DCFS and congregate care providers when a residential treatment facility has been identified as having significant quality issues as identified by the DCFS Residential Monitoring Program. The director would also work with other child psychiatrists on CATU, supervise staff, and collaborate as needed with on-site pediatric services.
It is anticipated that this position will be on the non-tenure, clinician-educator track. The ideal candidate will be able to collaborate with various state agencies in addition to DCFS and will have administrative time to direct these programs. This position includes teaching and supervision of fellows, residents, medical students, and other trainees in inpatient, didactic, and possibly outpatient settings, and shared on-call duties.
The applicant must be a physician or physician-scientist and have completed an ACGME (Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education) accredited residency in Psychiatry and a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. The applicant must possess or be eligible for an unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Illinois, a State of Illinois Controlled Substance License, and an unrestricted Drug Enforcement Administration license, and must be Board-Certified in Psychiatry and in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Experience and interest in teaching and supervising medical students and fellows/residents in an inpatient setting are essential.
The CARTS program is a component of the UIC Institute for Juvenile Research, which has been a leader in clinical care, education, and research focused on child and adolescent mental health since 1909. In this role, the CARTS Director will be administratively under the supervision of the Director of IJR. As needed, research resources can be provided to support expanding the research productivity of the CARTS program. IJR is a leading component of UIC Psychiatry, which is one of the largest Psychiatry departments in the Midwest. We are also one of the top-ranked teaching departments at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, the largest medical school in the country, with both preclinical and clinical teaching and mentoring opportunities. Our clinical services focus on diverse and vulnerable patients, serving predominantly minority and economically underserved populations on the South and West Sides of Chicago. Benefits and Compensation:
The previously determined salary range for this position is $250,000.00 to $300,000.00.
