A great UHY client is seeking an Interim Fiscal Manager. The ideal candidate will have nonprofit accounting experience, Early Head Start program experience, and grant accounting expertise.
The Interim Fiscal Manager role is a hybrid position, working onsite Monday through Wednesday and remotely Thursday and Friday. This is a contract position with the possibility of direct hire.
Interim Fiscal Manager Responsibilities
- Oversee the organization's day-to-day accounting and financial operations.
- Manage the general ledger, month-end and year-end close processes, and financial reporting.
- Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Administer federal, state, and private grant funding, ensuring compliance with grant requirements and reporting deadlines.
- Monitor grant budgets, expenditures, reimbursements, and funding allocations.
- Prepare financial reports for grantors and funding agencies, including Early Head Start program reporting requirements.
- Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, Uniform Guidance, and applicable federal and state regulations.
- Develop and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard organizational assets and ensure financial integrity.
- Coordinate annual financial statement audits and provide audit support documentation.
- Prepare account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Assist with organizational budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
- Monitor financial performance and provide recommendations to leadership regarding operational improvements.
- Utilize accounting systems and financial reporting tools to improve efficiency and reporting accuracy.
- Collaborate with executive leadership, program directors, and external stakeholders to support organizational financial objectives.
- Recommend and implement process improvements to strengthen accounting procedures and internal controls.
Interim Fiscal Manager Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA preferred but not required.
- Strong nonprofit (NFP) accounting experience required.
- Experience supporting Early Head Start or similar federally funded programs required.
- Extensive grant accounting experience, including grant budgeting, compliance, reporting, and reimbursement processes.
- Full-cycle general ledger accounting and financial reporting experience.
- Internal controls and audit experience preferred.
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics ERP preferred.
- Experience with Sage, Sage Intacct, and Solver reporting platform is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, and financial reporting.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with executive leadership, program managers, auditors, and funding agencies.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting strict reporting deadlines.
- Self-starter with a collaborative approach and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced nonprofit environment.
- High level of integrity, attention to detail, and commitment to financial stewardship.
