Fractional Controller

A great UHY client is seeking a Fractional Controller to join their team. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelors degree in accounting or related field, construction experience and relevant job experience.

The Fractional Controller role is an onsite position. This is a temporary, contracted position with the potential for direct hire.

Fractional Controller Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll coordination
• Manage monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes on both cash and accrual bases, as required
• Prepare and review financial statements, management reports, and variance analyses
• Lead budgeting and forecasting processes, including cash flow planning and project-level forecasting
• Oversee job costing and project accounting, ensuring accurate tracking of costs, revenue, margins, and work-in-progress
• Collaborate with project managers and operations teams to monitor project performance and financial outcomes
• Ensure proper revenue recognition in accordance with applicable accounting standards and contract terms
• Establish, maintain, and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
• Support system usage and optimization for project accounting and financial reporting tools (experience with Deltek Ajera or similar systems preferred)
• Manage compliance requirements, including tax filings, audits, and coordination with external accountants
• Provide financial insights and recommendations to support operational and strategic decisions
• Assist with process improvements, system implementations, and scalability initiatives as the business grows
• Serve as a trusted financial advisor to leadership on an as-needed basis

Fractional Controller Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or equivalent experience preferred
• Proven experience in a controller or senior accounting role, ideally within construction, engineering, or project-based environments
• Strong understanding of job costing, project accounting, and construction financial practices
• Experience managing closes on both cash and accrual bases
• Hands-on experience with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
• Familiarity with Deltek Ajera or comparable project management and accounting software preferred, but not required
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and adapt to changing business needs
• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with both financial and operational stakeholders
