Security Officer - Flex/PRN

The Security Officer is a key member of the Security Department Team. You will play a vital role in maintaining a safe healthcare environment. You will protect staff, patients, and visitors and ensure that all hospital property is secure. Your duties are to patrol the building and its grounds, monitor all activity in and out of the hospital, and endeavor to prevent vandalism, theft, fire, and disturbances within the facility. You frequently report to your manager or other security personnel about what you have observed on your rounds. You must be on the lookout for all sorts of issues at the hospital, including maintenance issues, which may compromise people’s safety or the integrity of the building.

Job Duties:

• Assures safe and secure environment. 
• Guards, patrols, or monitors premises to prevent theft, violence, or infractions of rules.
• Patrols premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure security of doors, windows, and gates.
• Answers alarms and investigate disturbances.
• Monitors and authorizes entrance and departure of employees, visitors, and other persons to guard against theft and maintains security of premises.
• Writes reports of daily activities and irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences.
• Calls police or fire departments in cases of emergency, such as fire or presence of unauthorized persons.
• Circulates among visitors, patrons, and employees to preserve order and protect property.
• Warns persons of rule infractions or violations, and apprehends or evicts violators from premises, using force when necessary.
• Operates detecting devices to screen individuals and prevents passage of prohibited articles into restricted areas.
• Performs duties while maintaining good service excellence and service recovery skills at all times.

 Work Schedule:

PRN: Available shifts include- Days; 7:00am - 3:30pm|  PMs; 3:00pm - 11:30pm| Nights; 11:00pm - 7:30am

PRN/ Flex staff are required to work a minimum of four (4) shifts, with at least 2 being a weekend, during each calendar month, as needed.  In addition, all staff are required to work 2 holidays per year.

Note: The PRN work status is not eligible for benefits

 Hartgrove Behavioral Health Hospital- 5730 West Roosevelt, Chicago, Il 60644 AND 

Garfield Behavioral Health Hospital- 520 N. Ridgeway Ave., Chicago, IL 60624

• High School Diploma. Some College or Higher Education preferred
• Minimum 1 year experience in security, psychiatric or acute care hospital experience a plus  
• PERC card preferred, CPI is a plus

Working Conditions:    

Work hazards associated with potential misconduct in surrounding areas of the Hospital.  Exposure to agitated employees or guests who may exhibit violent/aggressive behavior. General hospital environment.

Ability to communicate verbally, telephonically and in writing.  Physical agility to make Hospital perimeter rounds.
